Overview

Sylvia Aguilar Z�leny, deals with divorce and the loss of a child, and her quest to find herself as a Mexican-American. The book intertwines poetic word play to finally talk about what she isn't supposed to. "One does not speak about this," is a satirical approach to remain silent about taboos most bilingual Latina women face on a daily basis. She moves effortlessly between cultures ( Mexican-American) and references her environment as such. No need for antidepressants to deal with how "rara" (weird) she feels. She simply writes and talks about, even though is "prohibited" for a lady to listen to Nirvana and read Sylvia Plath.

Sylvia Aguilar Z�leny. (Sonora, M�xico, 1973) Licenciada en Letras por la Universidad de Sonora, Maestra en Estudios Human�sticos por el ITESM y Maestra en Escritura Creativa por la Universidad de Texas. Autora de los libros: Gente Menuda (Voces del Desierto, 1999), No Son Gente Como Uno (ISC, 2004), �Una No Habla de Esto (Tierra Adentro, 2008), Nenitas (Nitro-Press, 2013) y Se�orita Ansiedad y Otras Man�as (Kodama Cartonera, 2014).�

Parte de su obra narrativa se incluye en las antolog�as: �Sin L�mites Imaginarios, Antolog�a de Cuentos del Norte de M�xico, (UNAM, 2006), Romper el Hielo: Nov�simas Escrituras al Pie de un Volc�n (Bonobos, 2005), Naves Que se Conducen Solas: Narrativa en Sonora (2011), Lados-B: Narrativa de Alto Riesgo (Nitro-Press, 2013) y Bad Girl Tales (Wade Editions, 2014).�

Fue becaria del Fondo Estatal y del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes en M�xico en 1999, 2004, 2007 y 2012. Form� parte del Laboratorio Fronterizo de Escritores Tijuana-San Diego en 2006. Actualmente ense�a Traducci�n Literaria, de Ficci�n y de T�cnicas Narrativas en la Universidad de Texas. Escribe, lee, teje y bicicletea en El Paso.

Her work as a fiction writer is included in the following anthologies: Sin l�mites imaginarios, antolog�a de cuentos del norte de M�xico, (UNAM, 2006), Romper el hielo: nov�simas escrituras al pie de un volc�n (Bonobos, 2005), Naves que se conducen solas: narrativa en Sonora (2011) and Lados-B: narrativa de alto riesgo (Nitro-Press, 2013), Bad Girl Tales (Waid Books, 2013).

She has received regional and national grants from the Fondo Para la Cultura y las Artes en M�xico in 1999, 2004, 2007, and 2012. She was part of the Laboratorio Fronterizo de Escritores/Writing Lab, Tijuana-San Diego in 2006.�

She has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Texas at El Paso where she is currently teaching, living, biking and knitting (if it is winter, of course).
