Under Contract by Jacquelyn Ayres

Charlotte McKendrick is your typical thirty-something stay-at-home mom. She has three beautiful children, a loving family, special friends, and the most wonderful, adoring husband. Her life is a dream.

Er . . . let's try this again.

Charlotte McKendrick is not your typical thirty-something stay-at-home mom. Yes, she's got three beautiful children, a loving family (all of them lingerers-you'll see), and her friends are special, all right! As far as her wonderful, adoring husband, what a joke! That bastard abandoned her and the kids six months ago.

Now, she will do anything she can to survive and provide for her children. Even if it means signing on the dotted line . . .

Mitch Colton is the CEO of Colton Technologies. Most of his year is spent traveling around the world, bringing companies the latest innovations in automobile technology. He doesn't have time for a traditional relationship and the BS that comes with it. He doesn't do the "marriage" thing, the "kid" thing, and he certainly doesn't do the "falling in love" thing. All that said, he still wants someone to come home to. Someone who will offer everything he wants, and nothing he doesn't. He realizes loyalty paired with these kinds of demands won't come cheap. No problem. What he doesn't realize is that once Charlotte McKendrick signs that dotted line, he'll be paying with a lot more than money.

About the Author

I am a Domestic Engineer (born and raised in NJ) whose sole responsibility is to guide three young impressionable kids into becoming phenomenal adults. This challenging, yet rewarding work requires a lot of love (coffee), patience (wine) and determination (periodic exorcisms). I work all of this magic in the beautiful state of New Hampshire.

Before becoming a Domestic Goddess (not really), I spent over a decade working in the medical field where I wore more hats than the Queen.

I have had a love for the written word and the great escape it provides since I was a little girl. When I wasn't reading about people and the places they lived, I was creating my own characters and adventures.

Having found myself again, through my writing, with The Lost & Found Series, The One, and The GEG Series, has been nothing short of a dream come true. Also, it makes people feel better when I laugh randomly or talk to myself, knowing it's my characters and not "the voices" . . . that would be creepy.

Not one to trash or put down ones opinion on a book so I will just say I barely made it through 1/4 of this book. I may try and finish but it isn't likely. Too much sex and little to help connect you with the characters from the start. I found the chemistry between them lacking and Charley was wishy washy. If you are all about reading some sweaty scenes then this may be for you but I couldn't see the point of 40 plus pages of mainly sex and little of anything else.

If you haven’t read a book by Jacquelyn Ayres, this is a great place to start! I was a little concerned about the “contract” situation, but damn… Jacquelyn knows what she’s doing. Under Contract had me from the first second. Charlotte is a great character. Her sarcasm and wit are a thing of beauty. I laughed my way through the story. So many heroines are little better than a doormat and let the hero walk all over them. Not Charlotte!! She is bound by contract to do a lot of what he says (which he never lets her forget) but if he crosses the line, she hands his ass to him on a platter. Even when her heart is breaking, she has the love and compassion to forgive, but not without standing up for herself so that it doesn’t happen again. Charlotte is fiercely loyal, protective, determined, and has an incredible capacity to shower those around her with love and light. I couldn’t help but be tied up in knots over her situation. And while I understood her desperation, I wasn’t sure how I’d handle the paid mistress angle. But, almost from the very second Charlotte and Mitch meet, it’s clear that the story will be going in another direction. I actually don’t think Charlotte would have gone through with it if it hadn’t been Mitch sitting in that chair. Mitch is irritating, frustrating, smart, adorable, and melt me into a puddle of goo hot! I got whiplash from his mood swings. One minute I wanted to slap him upside the head, then next I wanted to tear his clothes off and do dirty things to him, then he does something stupid again, and I want to punch him in the junk. The thing is, Mitch is broken. I couldn’t help but be caught up in his heartache, which allowed me to forgive his stupidity at times. His walls were erected for good reason and they’ve been there for so long, he doesn’t know how to break them down. But Charlotte comes along and he immediately begins trying to scale them. He makes it a foot or two and then slides back down. He may give up on it for a time, but Charlotte makes him realize that the grass really is greener on the other side. There are times when Mitch is so sincere and loving, such a wonderful guy that you can’t help but see inside to the absolute teddy bear underneath the gruff and alpha exterior. Not that I have a problem with the alpha… yummy. Mitch and Charlotte light the sheets on fire from the very first. Their chemistry rages and leaps right off the page, scorching you and having you grabbing your man (or woman…) and running for the nearest bedroom…couch…floor…whatever. When I finished this book, my husband wanted to know when I’d be reading it again! You’ll fall in love with Mitch and Charlotte, they are a dynamic couple. But, that isn’t the only thing that shapes this story. Jacquelyn’s quirky (and sometimes freaking hysterical) secondary characters will have you rolling. I’ll definitely be waiting on the edge of my seat for the next book in this series! When that book arrives, be prepared for me to shove you out of the way as I run to buy it!

Jacquelyn Ayres’s “Under Contract” is a spicy read and the first book in the Green-Eyed Girls (GEG) series. The beginning reminds me a bit of “Pretty Woman,” and then it blossoms into a big, cute whole-hearted love story. Charley, the leading lady, is a great character – very relatable. Mitch, the leading man, is definitely book boyfriend material! I really liked the story and I couldn’t put it down. Mitch and Charley’s chemistry (and the descriptions thereof) is amazing! I can’t wait to read the next book in the GEG series.

Run - don’t walk - to your computers or bookstores and grab your copy of this book. It is smart, sexy, hilarious, and poignant all rolled up into one roller coaster ride that I’ll be taking again and again. The language is smart, the characters are too, and the absolutely hilarious, laugh-out-loud text messages between Mitch and Charlotte had me laughing so hard my neighbor wanted to know what I was reading! I love these characters! They are flawed, have issues - both physical and mental (don’t we all). There is a special needs child who signs (I can’t tell you how refreshing that was - that there were deaf characters in the book) and one struggling with MS. I could not put the book down and had to read it again, just to see if I laughed in the same spots. I did - harder and longer. There’s one spot that I was laughing so hard I had to run to the bathroom before I — well, you get the idea. Come meet Charlotte and Mitch, their families; and enjoy a book that will make you laugh, cry and orgasm! I don’t think I’ve been this excited about the beginning of a series all year! Yes, it is THAT good! Forget 5 stars, or ten - try 20! This one is over-the-moon-good! You bet your ass that I will be snatching up a copy of Book 2 in the GEG - Green-Eyed Girls - “In The Mix”!

This is book one in the GEG Series. It can be read as a standalone book. I gave this book 5 fantastic stars!!!! I have read Jacquelyn's work before and I am a fan. But, this book was just spectacular !! I loved it!! We meet Charlotte "Charley" when she is meeting Mitchell "Mitch" for a date. She has 3 kids and her husband basically abandoned her after 10 years of marriage and she has to learn to survive on her own. She will do anything for her kids. Even the thing that she is about to do right now. Mitchell is tired of doing the dating thing he wants someone to come home to without all the strings, someone who won't complain when they are left alone for months at a time. Someone that will be at his beck and call. That is not going to come cheap and he knows it, but he is willing to pay for it. Charley needs what Mitch is offering so she can support her family. So when she does sign on the bottom line she doesn't expect to get what she does. It was just a job, but it quickly turns into something else. They both have to look at what they are doing and figure out if they want more. The thing they said they both would never want. Both have been hurt in different ways but have been tainted by love non the less. Can they get over all the past pain? Can they let each other in and give in to something that will be amazing? I was really scared to read this. I read the words Under Contract and was like not my thing. BUT, I love Jacquelyn's work. So I said sign me up! I was supposed to leave this review yesterday, and was running behind. So I picked it up, the day I was suppose to leave the review, and settled in on my couch. I figured get a couple hours in and then finish it today. Well, that didn't happen. I started it and it never got sat down. I looked down one time and was at 35 percent. I said a few more chapters. One more chapter. One more Paragraph! NO NO NO!!! I looked up and it was 6am !! Yes, I am a gluten for punishment. This book was worth the whole 'I am going to fall over and die of lack of sleep today feeling!' You will not regret reading this. So go and one click it!! It is a book about falling in love when you least expect it. You see someone and you just feel it and you know without a doubt that this is the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with. Even if you fight it and you're scared to death, fate has other plans. SO you buckle up and you go on the ride of your life, and in the end you wonder how you ever lived without this person. This book is funny, it is sexy, and it will leave you breathless when you read some of the things that these two beautiful souls share with each other. It broke my heart and made me smile. Jacquelyn did not disappoint. Thank you for your humor and your books!!! I will always read what you write! I have no doubt of that now! <3

Laugh out loud fun! If you enjoy humor with your romance and sex, this book is for you. I must say that this is not your typical contract relationship turns to love story. While I do wish that the their feelings for each other would have take more time to develop, it works for them. Overall a great funny read, can't wait for the next book in the series about Cici & Kyle. I received a complimentary copy as part of a blog tour in exchange for an honest review.
