For both Zane and Darby, their small town roots hold a terrible secret. Now, decades later, they've come together to build a new life. But will the past set them free or pull them under?

Zane Bigelow grew up in a beautiful, perfectly kept house in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Strangers and even Zane’s own aunt across the lake see his parents as a successful surgeon and his stylish wife, making appearances at their children’s ballet recitals and baseball games. Only Zane and his sister know the truth, until one brutal night finally reveals cracks in the facade, and Zane escapes for college without a thought of looking back...

Years later, Zane returns to his hometown determined to reconnect with the place and people that mean so much to him, despite the painful memories. As he resumes life in the colorful town, he meets a gifted landscape artist named Darby, who is on the run from ghosts of her own.

Together they will have to teach each other what it means to face the past, and stand up for the ones they love.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked not only the main characters but all the supporting characters too. Every time I thought we had resolved the story there was more. While it was quite a coincidence that all these issues resolved during this time period stranger things have happened . I thought the beginning was dark but it was necessary for the rest of the book. This is a great read.

Fans of Nora Roberts will love this stand-alone book. While this book is not along her usually lines it is definitely Nora Roberts. Like Shelter In Place this story is darker, and explores a topic that we hear about and are still surprised about, domestic abuse. This book follows Britt and Zane and the family and community that surrounds them. I do not give away stories, and I never read those reviews that have spoilers in it. I can tell you that I loved every character (not the bad guys too). The stories were interwoven so skillfully that it was like leaving one home and stopping by someone else’s home have found that in some books you get confused when they story jumps from one character to the next, not with Nora Roberts. She tackled the topic with grace and sensitive while at the same time making it clear how dark and secretive domestic abuse is. If you have never read a Nora Roberts book, or if you love Nora Roberts you must read Under Currents, Be sure get you copy! It was an awesome read. Oh be sure to have a box of tissue ready.

This was a good story, but where did the 'romance go? That is what sets Nora Roberts apart for me. I read her for the fantastic scene and character development AND the romance. She just skipped over that here. It was not worth the $16.

No one weaves a story better than Nora Roberts. This is one of the best books she has written yet. A strong female character meets the true man of her dreams. They both come from troubled pasts and did not allow it to set the course of their lives. Highly recommend!

What goes on behind closed doors of the home stays hidden not to be seen until one day all can see the ugly truth. Parents love you protect you keep you safe. Not always. This is a heartbreaking emotional story about when life throws everything at you but you get up try to get past it and hope to move on. You go through all the rollercoaster of emotions with this story. It shows the skill of the author in bringing out these emotions and you really connecting with the characters. I was given an ARC of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
