Framed for murder, Chloe and a handsome Cajun stranger must search for a priceless treasure, one whose roots weave through the very history of Louisiana itself. But can Chloe depend on the mysterious man leading her on this cat-and-mouse chase into the heart of Cajun country? Or by trusting him, has she gone from the frying pan into the fire?

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Under the Cajun Moon by Mindy Starns Clark kept me riveted from the first page to the last. It is a wonderful romance, with plenty of intrigue, and characters so real and fascinating that they had me entranced. This author is now on my permanent 'auto buy' list!"
—Roxanne Rustand, author of End Game

"I just finished Mindy Clark's Under the Cajun Moon. What a cleverly written novel! I found myself giggling at the end of each chapter, because the hook at the end would not let go. Like a fish, or should I say an alligator, I walked the streets of the French Quarter and traversed the swamps—hoping to steer clear of snakes and gators. The mystery, the gusty and fascinating character, the enchanting and mysterious setting, and Clark's alluring writing all made a delightful gumbo."
—DiAnn Mills, author of Breach of Trust

"This stand-alone mystery showcases the author's birth state and her writing talent. The book is well-written with an easily understood plot line, believable characters, a romance, and a crackling ending. References to Christian faith are scattered throughout the contemporary story line, without being 'preachy' or overwhelming the excellent and believable plot line.

"Mindy Starns Clark is a multi-faceted author with fiction and non-fiction in her repertoire. This is a wonderful addition to her other books. I couldn't put it down, once started, and thoroughly enjoyed the French story line and its connection to the present. This will make a great present for readers who enjoy romance, mystery, and history."
—Suzanne Fellman Jacob, Chalfont, PA

"I have just read, Under the Cajun Moon, and it was the cause of a sleepless night. The book was so great that I couldn't put it down until it was finished in the early morning hours.
"Mindy Starns Clark is a gem of a writer and only gets better with each book she writes."
—Nancy Daversa

Publishers Weekly
Clark (Smart Chick mysteries) has cooked up a delicious recipe of intrigue, romance and intelligent character development. Clark, a former comedian, offers her ever-growing fan base equal measures of sharp wit and sassy comebacks through her protagonist, Chloe Ledet, daughter of famous New Orleans restaurateur Chef Julian. When Chloe is summoned back home after an accident hospitalizes her father, she re-enters the scene to conduct business for her dad and gets framed for murder Cajun-style. In quick fashion, Chloe must clear her name with the aid of a childhood beau as she wades through the literal bayous of the South and emotional swamps of old, unresolved childhood issues involving her distracted and distant parents. Clark's story line is full of spice and lingers with an unexpected bite familiar to Cajun cuisine lovers. This text is sumptuous. (Sept.)

A daughter of a renowned New Orleans restaurant owner Chloe Ledet is ordered home when her dad Chef Julian is hospitalized following an accident. Julian asks Chloe to keep his business running, which she agrees to do as this is the first time in her life her father asked her to do anything except take out the garbage. However, she barely looks at a recipe or sets a table, when the police suspect her of murder. Chloe knows she is being set up with Cajun pizzazz by an unknown source. Not one to sit idly by and wait for a break, Chloe investigates the homicide with a former boyfriend at her side. To solve the murder, she must swim in bayous and dig through her spicy dysfunctional relationships with her famous parents. This is an intelligent amateur sleuth mystery starring a spicy peppery heroine who is only in town to help her ailing dad, but soon finds herself drowning in Ragin' Cajuns. The story line is fast-paced but totally owned by the spunky lead protagonist who knows what she must do in the restaurant and to clear her name, but not with the man who offers to help her. If you have not read Mindy Starns Clark's Million Dollar and Smart Chick mysteries, you are missing out on one of the better whodunit authors as she returns to the Bayou State for a great mystery. Dollycas’s Thoughts This book received such wonderful reviews when it came out I purchased it right away and then it was buried in my TBR stacks. I pulled it out last week and started reading and could not stop. I finished the book at 3:07 a.m. I was planning to read just a chapter or two before going to sleep and one chapter just led to another and another and another. Usually when this happens I call the next morning a “book hangover” but that wasn’t the case this time. I actually woke up at my usual time and wasn’t tired at all. Chloe receives a call telling her her father has been shot and before he became unconscious he told her mother that Chloe must come home to finish a deal he had started. She remembers getting off the plane and meeting her father’s lawyer at his restaurant but has no idea how she got to a hotel suite and who is pounding on the door? and why is the lawyer asleep on the couch. What happens next sends her on a wild ride searching for the truth and following a recipe to find a secret treasure. There is also a story from the past of Jacques, a young goldsmith in France, interwoven into the main plot. I really enjoyed this part of the story. Both Jacques and Chloe are endearing characters. You truly care about them and their journey. They are both just trying to do what is right with so many, sometimes heart-wrenching obstacles in their way. Each has a bit of a love story too. Chloe meets Travis and he helps her so much. Jacques love story is a bit more complicated. This is not the first story I have read by Mindy Starns Clark. I enjoyed her Million Dollar Mysteries several years ago but I don’t remember being so totally drawn in my those books. This mystery was perfectly paced and wonderfully written. All the characters were well developed and so interesting. There is a bit of a Christian theme but it does not preach or become overbearing. It blends in with the history, the mystery and the wonderful scenery of the bayou seamlessly. The only thing I didn’t like were the snakes :) I am truly upset with myself for waiting so long to read this book. I now see why it was getting great reviews. It was a riveting read and while it is an older book I do recommend you pick it up today, just don’t wait to read it like I did.

Under the Cajun Moon Mindy Starns Clark ©2009 Harvest House Publishers ISBN 9788-0-7369-2624-9 (pbk) e-book, also Chloe Ledet wakes, confused, in a hotel suite. As police officers enter, she realizes her father’s lawyer is sprawlednearby on a couch—dead. She is immediately booked on suspicion of murder. Chloe insists that she and the dead man have blood drawn to test for drugs, sure that is the source of her memory loss for the previous evening and night. Chloe slowly realizes she has been framed for the lawyer’s death and determines to find the real killer. But who can she trust to provide information? The one person who cares about her and might help, Sam, is also found murdered. Earlier Chloe, an expert on world etiquette, had rushed from a television show in Chicago to be with her father in New Orleans, He is hospitalized, in a coma, the victim of a strange shooting. Her mother instructs Chloe to first meet with the lawyer at her father’s famous restaurant and sign important papers. Plus, her father, who has seldom paid attention to her, expects Chloe to solve the mystery of a missing treasure, maybe hidden in the swamps of Louisiana. Chloe has never felt loved or a part of any group but turns to various people for help. Each apparently becomes untrustworthy. She doesn’t even believe God can be trusted for help. Like any fascinating novel, especially by Mindy Starns Clark, troubles and disasters follow Chloe as she searches for the truth. Meanwhile, we learn more about her past life and about Cajun culture. She meets a handsome young Cajun man who rescues her several times. Will romance follow or will he also betray her? And will she ever reach her father’s side at the hospital? Why does her mother believe Chloe has shot her father, the lawyer and Sam? A most satisfying novel to read! Naturally, the villain is the person we least suspect.
