Jenna McInnis lives alone in the backwoods of Maine, and she likes it that way.
Unfortunately, her antisocial calm and quiet is about to be disrupted by John Merck, an undercover cop, whose big drug bust has gone horribly awry. Breaking into her house, the intimidating man hopes to find some kind of treatment for the gunshot he sustained during the firefight.
Instead, he finds a woman who is more than a match for him, even when he is nearly dead.
He owes her his life. He desperately wants to give her his heart. But he cannot do that without putting her in terrible danger.
So he makes a choice, the hardest one of his life, trying to do the noble – the best – thing for her, even if it means never seeing her again.
Publisher's Note: What begins as a terrifying experience quickly evolves into a love story, with steamy sexual scenes and domestic discipline. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. Merck is on the run and winds up at Jenna's home out in the middle of nowhere. Holding a knife to her throat he forces her to help him. The last thing he does before passing out is give Jenna a hard spanking to gain control. Soon the hostage becomes willing and they fall in love, but they both know their time together is short. This is a really good read. HEA
This story is fraught with so much suppressed violence and intrigue in the opening chapters that it will take your breath away. Is Merck going to live or is he going to die from his wounds, is he a good guy or just another drug dealing bad guy, is he going to kill Jenna or is he going to protect her? So many questions swirling around about him that you just can’t help but get engrossed in the plot. Then there is Jenna herself. Is she going to nurse Merck or turn him in at the first opportunity, is she going to submit to his dominant personality or press her luck at every turn. Again, you can’t help but get hooked on her and her circumstances. There is an AWFUL LOT packed into this story with action, intrigue and a spanking romance to boot. I can’t guarantee that you will like everything that happens in this story, but if you are already a Faulkner Fan then you will not be disappointed in the least. She always delivers the goods. While I couldn’t put this one down, and read it through in one sitting, I did feel that the final closing chapters didn’t quite live up to the pace and suspense created in the first half of the book. Then again, I’m not sure that could even be possible as it was so gripping. 4 stars. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
