Undercover with the Enemy by Sharron McClellan

High-risk securities operative Holly Milano usually prefers to work alone. Having a partner is, well, annoying. Case in point-her current assignment with Kane MacMillan. They're working undercover in high society to retrieve a priceless diamond necklace.

And Mr. Plan Everything is seriously cramping Holly's fly-by-the-seat-of-her-sexy-pants style.

Kane takes his job seriously, and he knows from experience that working with Holly usually ends in disaster. Their conflicting approaches could destroy their cover-or worse, get them killed. But when they're forced to pose as an engaged couple, neither Holly nor Kane are prepared for the possibility of an unexpected attraction...or that they're now putting their lives and their hearts on the line.

Review: This was one fun book to read! Enemies-to-friends is a theme I always love and Ms. Sharron did a first rate job with it. Holly and Kane were quite the pair. Impulsive and adventurous meets by-the-book and somewhat uptight. Yup, a match made in, well, somewhere. They were sent to infiltrate a high society gathering and retrieve a priceless piece of jewelry. Holly being the pantster that she is, when she has a blunder forces them to pose as an engaged couple which is something of a problem since they do it on the fly. It becomes a matter of National Security when they don't have their stories straight! All in all, they butt heads a lot, end up in awkward situations and eventually work things out. They really were a fun read. Ms. McClellan kept the plot line active from beginning to end. Kane might not seem like he's the most likable of characters at the beginning but he's a good guy with his heart and head in the right place. He is I think, the glue that really holds this story together. He certainly does change during the story arc for the better. It was a clever story, one I haven't seen the likes of in some time. I liked that it had a lighter tone but didn't dissolve down into silliness, yet it was still an intelligent story. All in all, I think those who love Romantic Suspense will love it for sure. 5 Stars! Lots of fun banter and bickering, steamy attraction, and dangerous situations created a story that was hard to put down. Holly and Cane seemed to be total opposites, and they didn't play well together, since Holly liked to be spontaneous, and Kane planned everything, and wanted to go by the book. This was a different kind of suspense story, since they didn't work for the law enforcement, but helped to solve divorce cases and settlements, with any means possible, skating on both sides of the law if necessary. When one of these cases goes all wrong, mafia gets involved, and follows them to their home field, things get potentially deadly dangerous. But the suspense and action were often in the background to the romantic development between the agents, and the dangerous moments were lacking in intensity at times. The story is very entertaining, I liked Holly and Kane together, their interaction. All the characters were well thought out, and had layers to them, that spiked the interest. There were lots of baggage they both were carrying, when it came to relationships, but they were like magnets to each other, couldn't stay away. And even though the bickering went on and on at times, when it counted, they had each others back, they were there for each other for support, and took care of each other. Refreshingly different storyline, including lots of action, danger, and fun with the agents. The romance is sizzling, and the characters willing to work on their issues, and even Holly's circus family get to play a part ~ Four Spoons

An unusual pairing of an impulsive and adventurous agent and her by-the-book partner results in fireworks in this funny and suspenseful story about opposites attracting. Holly Milano is in the retrieval business - a fancy way of saying she's a thief - and has been partnered with her staid and uptight boss, Kane MacMillan for their newest assignment to infiltrate a high society gathering and retrieve a priceless piece of jewelry. While Holly likes to fly by the seat of her pants, Kane takes a more restrained approach. He likes to make sure that every contingency is covered, something that does not endear Holly to him. And his concerns about Holly may be valid when her blunder forces them to change plans and pose as an engaged couple, especially because they can't keep their hands off each other. Their mission becomes even more complicated when they discover that the client was not completely honest with them and they have to contend with other parties that are interested in the item they have been tasked with retrieving. Since they assumed the ruse of an engaged couple on the spur of the moment with no time to come up with a convincing cover story, there were several hairy moments which they handled well because their simple assignment just became a matter of national security. Their mutual attraction gives them cause for concern, though. Holly has been rejected by her boyfriends several times after they meet her eclectic and unique family and after one too many hits to her heart, she has chosen to date only easygoing, superficial men, men who are interested only in a fun time, a category that Kane does not fall into. Kane was not the friendliest of heroes and it took me quite a bit to warm up to him. He has his own battle scars from past relationships and his stick-in-the-mud persona is a direct result of his experiences with his ex, whom Holly reminds him of quite a lot. However, he grew on me as the story continued and I got to like him a lot. He's not the usual hot, sexy hero. He's more the quiet type of guy, morally upright, reliable, respectful and honorable (sounds a little boring but sometimes, that's just what the doc ordered) but I liked him because after the initial shock when he met Holly's family, he made a huge effort to get to know them and understand them, really getting out of his comfort zone. UNDERCOVER WITH THE ENEMY was entertaining because it combines suspense with humor, snarky banter and sometimes cringe-worthy moments between the characters. This was my first time reading Ms. McClellan's work. The story is well written and I enjoyed the tropical setting. However, I felt this was more of a lust relationship than love. The banter between Holly and Kane was entertaining but the jump from dislike to love was too quick. The suspense and elements of surprise were a bit predictable. If you can overlook these things and just enjoy the story, this is a delightful read. ARC received from Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Holly Milano has special talents which makes her a valuable retrieval specialist for HRS, but this drivers her current partner crazy. Kane MacMillan plans every move and he doesn't deviate. Their new assignment is to recover a priceless necklace. They need to pretend that they are engaged. Can they be successful? Holly is a unique woman. She was raised in a circus. She loves her family but is reluctant to let others know them. Kane keeps his life private. He has loved and lost. He doesn't want to risk his heart again. The chemistry between them is amazing. The give new meaning to a love-hate relationship. When they are together sparks fly. The setting is exotic and dangerous. The dialogue is humorous And the secondary characters add drama and danger. Temperance Smith fascinated me. I want to know what drives her. This story is fast-paced and full of unexpected twists. I couldn't put this book down. Sharron McClellan is a new to me author. I enjoyed her style and her creative mind. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work. Undercover With The Enemy was a perfect beach read.

Undercover With the Enemy begins when Holly Milano is being partnered with Kane MacMillan. The major problem with this is, Holly is more a risk taker. She's going to act before she thinks things through, and doesn't really follow orders very well. Kane, however, is the exact opposite. He follows orders to the "T" and hates that Holly doesn't ever stick to the plan. These two have never worked well together, and now they forced to pretend to be engaged. Neither one is really sure what is going to happen next or if they can even pull off this assignment. But they bound and determined to try! The last thing they expected though was to have an attraction to each other, and that's exactly what starts to build once they start pretending... This book was very interesting. It has suspense, an extremely strong heroine, and a really awesome hero. It was a nice contrast to see how different the hero and heroine were, and how they came together. The situations they had to go through created a strong bond between them, and at times were quite funny. Over all this book was very interesting, and I liked!

Holly Milano thinks she does her best work alone, tends to be a spur of the moment kind of girl, and isn't much for planning or details. So, when she gets saddled with a partner for her latest job, she is all but thrilled about it, but tries to make the best of a bad situation. Kane MacMillian has been assigned to work with Holly on a new mission and before they even get started he is already bracing himself for a bad ending. Holly is his total opposite, she doesn't have a planning bone in her body, and tends to act first and think later, which drives Kane absolutely crazy. Can these to find common ground long enough to solve the crime or will it all blow up in their faces.... This was definitely a memorable first read for me, it had all the makings of a perfect romance story...lots of spice, packed with action and suspense, and a feisty heroine that wasn't afraid to go toe to toe with a tough alpha male!! The story line pulled me in right away and had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through! The characters had amazing chemistry, and I loved all the sexy banter between them, they had me smiling the whole way through!! I love a good opposites attract trope, and this one definitely exceeded my expectations!! If you like your romance stories packed with action, and lots of smoldering heat then this is the perfect read for you!! Highly recommend this one, it does not disappoint!! I loved this book and, if you are a fan of romantic suspense, you will too. It has it all, from a sexy woman in a high risk job to her annoying team leader than can be truly sexy and fun when he wants to be. Throw in an elusive target, the mob, and plenty of danger, and you've got a great read. My only question is how did I not hear of this author before? She is very talented and now on my must read authors' list. If you like romantic suspense, you will love it - a perfect book for summer reading.
