I read this book as a tune-up for talking with my 12-year-old daughter. I was amazed how something so comprehensive could be so easy to read, but I knocked it off in 3 nights. The information is solid and the health and sexuality prevention tips are realistic and respectful of parents and young people. I think what makes this resource stand out the most is the way Basso not only acknowledges the connection between mental health and behavior (sexual/academic/health) but spells out how this critical issue impacts the ability to make good decisions. He provides good suggestions for spotting mental health problems, how to help someone in need, and how to improve the situation. This is the first time I have seen this topic interwoven with sex, but I'm glad someone finally discussed this issue. I wish I had this resource while I was growing up.

I bought this for my 13-year-old daughter and it has everything I want her to know about, and put in a way she understands. She likes it a lot and we end up talking about things I never really thought I would be able to talk about! EXCELLENT BOOK!

I was skeptical when a friend at my church recommended this for our bible class lessons with our teens, but in all fairness, the approach used is fair, supportive of family values and most of all has an abstinence chapter that is better than any I have ever read and used - and I've used plenty. I use it now in my classes with youth as well as with my own kids. Good book!

This has everything I wanted to know about and it got right to the point without all that flowery-BS! I wish they taught this in schools!

Finally someone has raised the issues of teen relationship violence, predators in the schools, community, and internet, and HOW to avoid becoming a victim! This book has so many strategies and tips for parents to use and give to their kids about growing up safely in today's world. Excellent!

Honestly, I didn't know everything I felt I needed to when it came to sex and the issues that teens face today, so I bought this book for myself and surprisingly, read it in just 3 nights! I learned a lot! But the best part was sharing this information with my daughter. She has started reading this book and now comes to me with questions! It's wonderful and it has added a new level of trust and openness to our relationship. I love this book!

I was pleased to see the medically accurate facts along with healthy relationship information. Teens can relate to the information because it is written in 'their' language. This is a must read for teens, parents, teachers and anyone who works with teenagers.

I was reading about this book on many of the parenting and youth sites and decided to get it and I'm glad I did. It is about time a professional from CDC finally acknowledged what a huge problem sexual predators on-line, in schools, in our communities has become. Our neighbor's daughter was a victim from one of her teachers and it has been devastating to the family (and community as well). This is the only resource that I found that not only addresses this issue, but provides realistic and useful tips. My daughter and I have read this together and talked about what to look out for. I feel better about her leaving the house now. I highly recommend this book!

Finally a book a parent can use to address TODAYS issues! There was nothing out there about all of the things young people are facing that don't get talked about (being hit on by adults, abusive relationships) and finally some strong practical guidance for parents to give their children. CAUTION: Get the 2nd/latest edition - it has all of the updated and new stuff including 'How to Raise Successful Parents' which I just love! I think this is a must have for young people going into middle school and their parents!

I am so glad someone recommended this book to me for my 13 year-old daughter! Accurate information about these issues is so hard to come by these days as politicians and special interest groups run amok. I use this book to prepare me for discussions with my daughter, and she uses it to read when she has questions. We both read it cover-to-cover in three days! Great resource! Highly recommend it!

You have no idea how hard it is to find someone or a place to get information about the things that are going on in life, especially about sex! A website recommended this book and I got it and I love it!

I looked for books for my son and daughter to help us talk about sex and answer their questions. I looked at them all and decided on this one - it's the most comprehensive, easy to understand and non-judgemental resource out there - yet at the same time each message promotes responsibility. This book has effected our family positively.

I read about this book in Jump magazine as a recommended book for teens and parents - and they were right. This is exactly what I was looking for.

I finally found a book that was able to give me the 'refresher' knowledge I needed to feel confident about speaking with my fifteen year old son and twelve year old daughter. This book was supposedly written for teens to read and use, but I shared this with my brothers, sisters and friends (all over the age of 35) and we have found it invaluable. This book is easy to read, promotes family values, equity and the facts! I highly recommend this book to any adult or parent who needs a primer or 'refresher' course on the issues young people face everday.
