What an exceptional read. This book can assist any family that is dealing with this life changing disease. Even if you have no experience taking care of sick people it gives you a guideline on how to prepare for Alzheimer's. These are the types of books that I really appreciate because I know that they will have such a positive and strong impact on anyone that is going through this terrible part of life.

I lost one grandparent to Alzheimer’s in my youth, and in just the past few weeks my grandmother was diagnosed with the disease. Besides being a little forgetful, she’s not showing any symptoms of the disease. I’m glad I came across this book at this time, it’s helping me and my families cope and prepare for what is coming. Understanding Alzheimer’s is not technical and so easy to read, understand, and follow. I recommend this book to any family suffering through Alzheimer’s.

I spent years away from my parents, and after returned to my hometown I can see that they have declined in mental faculties; especially my father. I have two young children, and now the prospect of caring for two aging parents. I was almost hopeless until I came across Understanding Alzheimer’s. I’ve read the book twice already and have highlighted almost the entire book. I don’t look forward to what’s coming, I think I’m prepared.

Great book for anyone needing information on caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s. Very realistic regarding what a caregiver can expect and great information on how you can help someone with Alzheimer’s. Book does a good job of helping caregivers set reasonable expectations for themselves and understand why they need other people involved in the patient’s daily care.

This book does exactly what it claims – explains Alzheimer’s disease and how to manage the care of a loved one faced with it. I not only came away with an understanding of Alzheimer’s, but also with some know-how in facing it.

To Be Or Not To Be Should you become a caregiver to your loved one with Alzheimer’s? If so, what can you expect? There is a lot of information on the disease and its progression in this book. However, its true value is in helping you think about yourself to determine if being a caregiver is right for you AND your loved one. A great book.

Until I read this book, I was not aware that Alzheimer's affects more women than men and that it has risen sharply just  in the last decade alone.  This book is a very good source for those who have a loved one that has been diagnosed with the disease, or for those who simply want to have a better general understanding what it is, how it affects people, and the challenges and sensitivities that affect all of those who live with someone diagnosed with it.

This book is well organized, well researched, written in easily understood terms, and with great compassion, From the emotional toll to the legal issues, the writers have managed to cover it all..  Caregiving takes a toll on the caregiver, especially if there is no support system in place.  With that understood, this plan is an excellent place to start if considering that option.

Understand Alzheimer’s is a very informative book and is definitely recommended. When you’re in a situation of a loved one who may have Alzheimer’s and it’s your first time being in this type of situation, this book is a great one to choose from. In my opinion, this book has more information in it than anyplace else, the Internet being one of them. Alzheimer’s is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States so in my opinion, I would take that very seriously. Alzheimer’s disease is not a joke.

After reading the first few pages you clearly feel the empathetic, yet informative stance that this book takes.  Moved by the encouraging, support-centered material and the meticulous organization, this text wholly elaborates on every detail in understanding the consuming illness that is Alzheimer’s.  Opening by explaining basic relatable questions, it then delves into the choice of becoming a caregiver along with all the issues, essential steps and best management tips for that experience.  It comprehensively explains the seven stages  of Alzheimer’s disease and then breaks down what to expect in your care giving role along with common challenges.   This book covered everything a caregiver needs to know about how to take care of someone with Alzheimer’s and yourself, also.

If you've ever had a family member or relative diagnosed with this difficult disease, then this book may be a good starting point for figuring out  what comes next. Understand Alzheimer's acts as a road map of sorts detailing what may happen with the disease and how you can cope. The book offers suggestions on ways you can deal with some of the feelings you may be having and even empowers you by suggesting you take control and become a caregiver if you feel you are up to the task (there are a series of questions and tips should you decide this is what you'd like to do).

This book was a great comfort to me when my grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.  I didn't know where to turn.  I was hurt, shocked and overwhelmed.  It wasn't until I looked in these pages that I really understood what was happening in his world.  I will always be thankful for this book.

A valuable guide for the caregiver at various stages of their journey.  The author stayed true to this purpose without complicated medical data and with plenty of checklists and planning advice.  The book follows the caregiver’s journey from the initial diagnosis and the decision to become a caregiver, to the levels of commitment at different stages of Alzheimer’s disease.  The author’s advice on taking care of the patient as well as taking care of one’s self was excellent.  The information on planning and managing caregiving was invaluable.

Although I got this book for free! They say the best things in life are free. This was very informative and helpful. I never knew about all the issues and complications that could go into being a primary caregiver for someone who has Alzheimer's. Glad I got an opportunity to read this and share some of the information to my family. It made the issue and dealing with it, more comforting. It is such a sensitive topic in my family. Everyone wants to keep quiet about mental health. I think ignoring it and not educating yourself on it, only makes it worse for the parents and the caregiver. I appreciated the quality and amount of information!
