Liz Davis’ life has taken a turn for the worst. Since she buried her parents, a series of events have turned her life into a nightmare. First, her car’s brakes fail in the middle of a busy intersection, a week later an intruder turns off her power and attacks her in the kitchen of her home. She’s convinced, Maggie, her next-door neighbor’s surprise visit saved her life.
The Bangor police think the incidents are random. As much as Liz wants to convince herself they’re right, she has a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach. Something isn’t right.
When her house blows up seconds after she steps into the back yard, and since no one knows she’s still alive, she decides to run. She has no family except for an Uncle who works in Saudi Arabia, and since her parent’s death, she hasn’t been able to contact him.
Her plan to avoid people falls through when she meets her new neighbor, Jake Johnston. He’s handsome and trustworthy and he makes her feel safe. At least safer than she feels when she’s alone. Of course the little things that have begun happening in Fredericton are just accidents. No one could have possibly found her yet – Could they?
The worst part is, the way things are happening it looks like she's hurting herself. Will anyone believe the truth? Will Jake?

About the Author
Lina Gardiner, author of the award winning Jess Vandermire Vampire Hunter Series has writing in her blood. Pun intended. "Gardiner takes everything positive about romance novels, mixes it with a little bit of adventure and throws in an evil villain or two, resulting in a perfect petit four for sating a romantic craving. Just don’t be surprised if you are hungry for more 30 minutes later." --Kirkus Reviews

This was a book with a good premise but it failed to deliver. Nothing was developed properly: implausible situations, lame dialogs, nonexistent romance, and a suspenseful plot with little suspense and too many overstretched scenes relying more on serendipity than on a carefully crafted plot. The characters were not developed properly either. She was plain dumb for much of the book and he was, well, not the strong hero that could have saved the book. Not worth the time or money.
**A free copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review** I loved this book it grabbed my attention from the first page and held on to me through the last page. It was one of those keep you up half the night reads trying to find out who the assailant was. For more than half the book I thought it might be her uncle, but I was wrong. I won't tell you who it was or what happened other than to say that people thought Liz was crazy when she said someone was after her and that her parents car accident was not an accident, until... Someone called this book a romance novel and I have to say I totally disagree, there is romance in the story, but it is not what I consider a romance novel. This book is excellent and I look forward to reading other books by Lina Gardiner.
I had such a great time reading Unknown Assailant. It has everything I love in a story. The book is fast-paced, has a great love story, and I can guarantee the ending will surprise you. Lina Gardiner knows how to plot a novel with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the last page. I wonder what she’ll come up with next.
