Loved it!! I'm ready for book 2!

I don't normally do reviews unless I've read what I felt was a really good book. This book definitely falls in that category! I have almost 1600 books in my library and this book ranks as one of my top 20 favorites. I agree with another reviewer, it stinks that we have to wait almost a year for the next book. On the plus side...we will have another great book to continue the story! Please take a chance and purchase this one. I truly believe that you will agree with a five star rating.

I picked this one up to read right before bed one night, and told myself I would just read chapter. Well, that didn't last as I could barely put it down! The character, Amber, was just so relatable and interesting, that I was drawn in and had to know how things would go. And then there was Rylen. It was a total brother's best friend romance, but then again it wasn't. When Rylen went away to war, he came back and it was as if he'd never known how she felt about him. Even all the moments when it seemed like maybe he felt the same, or she even basically came out and told him in one of her emails. So when he comes back at a point in the war that means everyone ends up back home, when things get really bad all over the world, what has happened to him keeps them apart, and I know I was crying so much, as if it had happened to my best friend, or even myself. I loved Rylen, and I just knew that he was supposed to be with Amber, in spite of what happened. There came a time when the back story to the little issue was revealed, and then I knew it was what I had suspected caused that issue in the first place. And I felt a little better and could go on reading, not quite as heartbroken as before. The tragedy that happens to all of their family is really insane, and what it does to all of them definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. I liked the little dalliance between Amber's best friend Remy and Amber's brother, Tater. It was a humorous scene, even surrounded by all that happened to them before. It was a little frustrating that Rylen and Amber could not overcome it all to take that moment to finally figure out what was between them as well. In the end I was so glad I had book two to go on and find out what happened next.

Wow. I was not expecting this book to be what it actually is. This book really is a look into the lives of the family of our main character Amber and how they grow together and are ultimately dealing with the beginning of an apocalypse. I loved that this book is set during the very beginning of the chaos. I barely have read any books that weren't firmly in the 'post era' of the post-apocalypse. I really connected with the characters even though I have nothing in common with any of them! This book is very much an introduction and I expect book 2 to be insane!

Written in a Red Dawn (the movie) fashion. A group of 20 year olds become rebels against aliens that have just about wiped out the worlds population.

A fast-paced, action packed start to what's sure to be an epic love story. I finished UNKNOWN, and I'm going to need Book Two like yesterday, okay? Thanks. I really enjoyed the story, especially the old school Red Dawn vibe it had going on! I still remember how scared I was to go to school after watching that movie, convinced enemy soldiers were going parachute onto the playground and take me hostage. I liked how opening chapters laid the groundwork for the series and wasn't simply a bunch of flashbacks. I never felt like I was confused about what was going on or where I was in the timeline. I loved Amber and Rylen, and her family is the best! It was nice to see a diverse, multi-generational family under one roof. The camping scene made me laugh! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!" In this first installment, action, tension and relationships take center stage, which adds a layer of authenticity to the overall story. Don't get me wrong, I love kissing and everything else that goes along with romance, and it's there simmering below the surface, but the world is literally falling down around these characters. They're focused on survival, as they should be.
