We got a lot of great new characters, both from the end of the last book, as well as at the base where they ended up in this book. There was a point when I was practically shouting at Amber and Rylen to figure their stuff out and get together. I hated the character Linette, even though in the end, she may have done a good thing, in finally helping Amber make her move. When the two of them finally figure it out, it is perfect though. I really liked the base that they lived at, the underground part, as well as how they tunneled through to a nearby hotel so that they all had pretty comfortable living quarters to start with. Finding out just what the aliens had done to the girls and other people with the shots and other things they'd done was heartbreaking in this story, but also helped make things easier for other things to take place. Of course we had to lose characters, it wouldn't be realistic if not, I'm glad that for the most part, our main characters stayed alive. Even if Tater was just so out of it, not being able to overcome what had happened to his family, and almost to Amber at one point in their journey. Then there was the discovery of one of the humans that had worked for the aliens, and I knew exactly what he was going to end up with as a secret that would hurt our main characters. The plan they set up was great, and leaving to go to the next part of the plan worked out, other than when we lost a couple of the characters, two of our very important ones in fact. Once again, when I finished, I was so glad I had book three, so that I could jump right in and see what happened to those three who'd been left behind unfortunately when the base got attacked by the aliens.

What have you DONE Wendy Higgins!!!! I had to buy e-book of Unrest because bookstore was closed and I DEVOURED the thing in three hours!!! And what did you leave me with? My heart hanging out of my chest until Fall!!! You are evil, Wendy. Brilliant. Creative. But evil. Oh, the HUMANITY..... Where to begin? How about with Amber. At the end of book one (Unknown) we were left with jaws on the floor and drowning in a sea of tissues. (Can't spoil too much for those who haven't read this yet.) Wendy picks up hours after that horrific scene. You have to feel so much for Amber. Anyone who has experienced extreme, sudden loss can definitely empathize with her. What I love about Wendy's writing is how she shoves me into the character's soul. I truly feel as though I AM that character. Let me tell you, it has been a heart shredding experience so far with this series. Amber has so much on her heart in the first half of the book. But once they find a safe shelter (can't spoil it with details) she starts to attempt to heal her shattered heart. Rylen also has healing to do. I must say that I wanted to hit him over the head with a 2x4 during certain scenes to knock some sense into that man. Guys can be SO clueless, no? My heart went out to Tater in this second book. Seriously, if I could have crawled into the book to Mama Squish hug him, I would have. He's just drifting, yet grounded in pain. I hated seeing him turn his heart to stone like that. This book was a fantastic example of how different people express and internalize pain and loss. Wendy really did her homework on the psychology of grieving souls. The pacing and storyline was rock solid as you would expect from anything Wendy published. The mystery of the enemy started to be revealed toward the last half of the book, but they still haven't been fully revealed in my mind... which I love. There was enough explained to give some relief but yet I still felt compelled for what was to be learned in book three. That is a tough balancing act for any author and Wendy performed it beautifully. Remy started to really develop in Unrest. I loved getting to know her and see her mature as a character. We found out more about her drive and her skills, her determination and her grit. As for the romance.... let's just say Wendy brought a whole new meaning to mat burn. ;) Wendy brought her A Game to Unrest. Wit, suspense, thrills, delicious scenes & a cornucopia of FEELINGS that will leave you a puddle on your floor. Now I will go drown in chocolate for the next 6-8 months.....

I really loved the first book in the series but Unrest is even more tantalising. It demanded and held my attention. Fabulous! Amber,Riley,Remy,Tater and their newly found allies and friends continue on their journey to seek refuge with a group which could be friends or foes. They won't know until they get there and they carry on regardless. It really doesn't matter at this point but hope and survival are great drivers. This journey gets harder with every step of the way. Everything is getting scarce and they face one disappointment after another. When they find somewhere where they might find something to ease their way, they have to face yet another scare. Amber finds herself in danger and the knock on effect turns disastrous for Tater who is already in a dark place. They reach their destination after going through more than they could endure. Amber and Riley continue to dance around each other until Linette, a newcomer sticks her oar in. Amber realises that she has to do something but doesn't take the best approach. Desperation? Once they get together, sparks fly and it becomes apparent that they both had similar reservations. Phew! After what happened at the end of the first book and what Amber recently encountered, Tater is no longer the happy go lucky lad that he was. As for Remy, she too is a different person. Their interactions are interesting and intriguing. Unrest is fast paced and very well balanced. It's full of action, suspense, heartache and love. It's a great concept with a nice flow and palpable emotions. I fell even more in love with the characters and I am completely hooked. I can't wait to see what transpires next.

"We are the past and present, and we are the future. It's up to us." Unrest picks up right where Unknown left off. Right into the crazed aftermath of witnessing the horrors of this new world order. They are on the run through the desert, trying to escape the same deadly fate as many others, albeit wholly unprepared. I will admit that reading this book during these times of political unrest in our country made me sleepless at night. It feels so real, so possible, and really makes you think about what would you do without running water, electricity, coffee, or chocolate! Going through this journey with Amber, Remy, Tater, Rylen and the rest of the crew was really emotional. They each are suffering from loss, they each have their own ways with dealing with their current circumstances that you can't help but relate to each and every single one of them. Throw in the roller-coaster of Amber's internal struggle to come to grips with her unending love for Rylen, and how to express it to him without possibly ruining their close bonds if he rejects her. Their relationship is so heartwarming and I could feel my pulse quicken with Ambers' every time she got too close to Ry. Swoon! I especially love a romance that you have to work for...that is as a reader! I was cheering for Amber and Rylen so hard that sometimes I forgot about the horrors I was reading! Yes, Wendy Higgins can write some of the steamiest scenes I have ever read. This book is packed with real life scenarios that I felt I could learn something from especially since I have no military background or experience. Complete civvy, without any real useful knowledge. I probably can relate to Remy the most, who studied Biology in college as I did, and had the least non-military experience of the group. I also feel as though we are completely different personality wise, well maybe not when I was in college, I was a little more like her back then. But I always look for myself in the books I read. Her and Tater had so much grief that it literally made me choke up at times. So realistic and so much feeling. I loved them together, helping each other get through these awful times. In Unrest, we get everything I wanted. Answers for a lot of the burning questions, although we are left with more, and oh my gawd, the heat level rises (yes!). You will not be able to put this book down until the very last page and then you might be angry like me, because well, it leaves you on baited breath that is for sure. I can't even tell you how much I want the final book! I need it, NOW! There is action, danger, romance, and most of all hope. Unrest was absolutely everything I wanted it to be and more! I had no idea how much I needed this book in my life right now.

I read this in one sitting. I couldn't put it down! This sequel was everything I wanted, amped up action, tension, stakes, romance, and FEEEEEELINGS. I can't wait to see what happens next--Oh, and that gym scene gives new meaning to "feel the burn". *fans face* ;)

“Fear of the unknown threatened to make me cry out, but I strangled it back down. We had to move forward. We had to survive and fight.” 4.5 Thrilling Stars!! Unrest was everything that I wanted in a second book and then some!!! Unrest picks up right where Unknown left off. Circumstances are tough and the journey for Amber and her crew is not an easy one. Our beloved characters are trying their hardest to survive, just living one day to the next. And just when things are starting to look bleak, shelter is found. But, the question is, is it safe or is it a set-up? Amber and her crew have no choice but to seek shelter with the unknown and hope for the best….. Unrest is a wonderful and thrilling addition to the Unknown Series. While a lot of my questions were answered, I was still left with many more. Unrest is full of action and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat and was feverously trying to burn through the pages, all to see what would happen next. And let me tell you, Unrest does not disappoint. While there is a lot of action, this story does kick up the romance and steam factor up a notch, but don’t fret. The romance is just a nice and much needed addition to the story. The story flows incredibly well and still stays focused on our beloved survivors. Unrest hit the ground running and had me holding my breath right until the very end. And let me just say, that ending…..Well, that ending is going to leave you begging for more and in anticipation for what is going to come next! I for one can not wait to see what is in store for our survivors next and how this story is going to play out.
