About the Author

Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—Elisabeth Naughton taught middle-school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Naughton now writes full-time. Her books have been nominated for some of the industry’s most prestigious awards, such as the RITA and Golden Heart Awards from Romance Writers of America, the Australian Romance Readers Award, and the Golden Leaf Award. When not dreaming up new stories, Naughton can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home. Unspeakable is the third book in her Deadly Secrets series, following Protected, Gone, and Repressed, which was a 2017 RITA winner in romantic suspense.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed it so much I can’t wait to read the other books in this series. Unspeakable is a complex and beautifully written romantic suspense story that slowly reveals itself and purposely keeps the reader off balance as to whether the main character, Rusty McClane, is guilty of making young girls disappear. When Rusty’s lawyer’s investigator and ex-cop, Harper Blake, is brought in on the case the pair start working together to try to prove Rusty’s innocence. This story is riveting and so complex it’s hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys and just when you think you have all the information you need to solve the case there’s another twist that will blow your mind. I read a complimentary copy of this book provided by Montlake Romance through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

Where has Elizabeth Naughton been all my life?! Romantic Suspense is probably my all time favorite genre to read. I love the suspense, the danger, the uncertainty, and the chemistry that smolders between the two main characters. Unspeakable is the perfect mixture of everything I LOVE about romantic suspense. There is hidden identity, secrets, danger, life and death situations, and a love story that burns bright amidst the chaos. Rusty and Harper. These two. Their meeting is due to a misconception and false accusations. Not the best way to start off a relationship of any kind. But the beauty of this story is that not everything is as it seems. I don’t plan to dive too much into the plot of this book because that would spoil it. And this story needs to be savored… scratch that, devoured, so no spoilers here! Rusty is the perfect broken hero. His past has molded his future and he uses his pain to make a difference in the world, even if it is in a vigilante way. When Harper enters his life, he is both frustrated and intrigued. These two partner so well, fighting for justice and trying their hardest to make it all out alive. The minute I finished this book, I went straight to Amazon and grabbed the first three in this series. BONUS: you can start in the middle of this series and it all makes sense. It is a series of interconnected standalones and meeting the past characters from the series in this book only made me want to read their stories even more! If you love good writing, fast action stories, and a romance to curl your toes, Naughton’s books are not to be missed!

I've been waiting for Rusty's story since the beginning of the series and it was absolutely amazing! I think it is the best of the series. Elisabeth Naughton's Deadly Secrets series is as dark and suspenseful as it sounds. Unspeakable is full of secrets that both Rusty and Harper have to uncover to bring down the Plague. The organization has been taking young girls off the streets and selling them. They disappear without a trace, but Rusty has been fighting against them as much as he can. With Harper's help they may be able to bring them down completely. Deeper into the story Rusty and Harper's pasts come into play and intertwine in unexpected ways. I enjoyed how the story came full circle. There are twists and turns that pop up unexpectedly throughout the story, which I have come to expect from the stories in this series. Unspeakable is the story to read if you enjoy romantic suspense from Susan Stoker or Kendra Elliot. *ARC provided in consideration for review*

This is book 4 in the Deadly Secrets series and it features Rusty and Harper. This author is brilliant at writing romantic suspense! I started this book with an idea of where the story was going, only to do a 180 and change my way of thinking all together. It was smooth and totally unpredictable. Rusty and Harper made a great team. I really had my doubts about Rusty. He was just so angry and closed off. I thought it was kind of weird that Harper was attracted to someone she thought was guilty before even investigating him. The story was AWESOME! The characters were great and the story line had steady growth from the start. This is another amazing book by this very talented author.

4 1/2 stars out of 5 This is the second in the Deadly Secret series I have read by Elisabeth Naughton. This can be read as a stand alone novel but I think readers will enjoy it more if they read the entire series. Rusty is a broken alpha male who is trying to right the wrongs while Harper is trying to find out who is killing young girls. The story is well paced until the sex starts and the story stalls out having readers flip though endless sex scenes that are "mind blowing" to find the story again. When the story is found readers will be hooked once again but soon sex and romance takes over until the last 80% of the book where if you put it down for a second you will be wondering what is happening to the heroes of the story. The ending is a little cheesy for my taste when it comes to romantic suspense stories. With that being said if this is the end of the Deadly Secrets series the author put the perfect finishing touches. Thank you to Netgalley, The author and publisher Montlake Romance for the advance copy of Elisabeth Naughton Unspeakable

I received this ARC for an honest review. This is the perfect ending to Elisabeth Naughton’s “Deadly Secrets Series”. This book is about Rusty McClane, who owns an winery by day, but has a very different life at night. (Not going to tell. You must read the book) During a family party, Rusty’s night life came crashing down in him. He is getting investigated for possible kidnapping. His lawyer has a private investigator named Harper, and she is highered to look into Rusty’s case. Harper’s first impression is not a positive one and she suppects he might be guilty. As Harper investigates, she realizes there is much more to this case and Rusty than she originally expected. I am not going to give details, because YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK! It can be read without reading the other books because Elisabeth Naughton gives enough of the back story so you are not lost, but I recommend to also read the other books in this series. Harper and Rusty’s chemistry is amazing. You get lost in the story. I really enjoyed this story.

Unspeakable is the 4th book in the Deadly Secrets series. Readers have gotten brief glimpses of Russell "Rusty" McClane from previous books and as with the other McClane boys, he's a bit of a "troubled" man. Harper Blake is a disgraced ex-cop who is trying to put her life back together after a scandal and her father's death changed her world. She's a PI who doesn't necessarily hate her job, but also doesn't get the same thrill as when she was a cop. When Rusty is accused in a missing person's case, it's Harper's job to find the evidence, but what she uncovers is much worse than she expected. There were several twists in this story that kept me hungry for the next chapter. Just when I thought I had figured out what was going to happen, bam, new twist. The first part of the book really sets up the story line, but half way through,, everything starts happening at a fast paced. Once Harper and Rusty start working together and the chemistry really starts flowing, the story takes off. I will say, the revelation at the end brought out the tissues. ARC received from NetGalley for an honest review.

This gritty and emotionally gripping romance pulls readers and refuses to let go until they have unraveled every last secret. Rusty and Harper are two strong, absorbing characters that sizzled with undeniable chemistry and readers can easily connect with their story. The romance between these two is full danger and passion as at first they fight their attraction to each other and slowly give in as they grow closer together. Both characters have emotional scarring that they have to overcome before they can fully commit to a relationship which adds lots of depth to this story and fits in with the plot of the story as the past unravels. The story has fast pace and flows smoothly from beginning to end and it keeps readers glued to the pages with lots of thrilling suspense. Danger hides around every corner and deciding who to trust can be lethal as surprising twists reveal deadly secrets. Rusty and Harper’s story has some surprising connections that adds wonder and a sense of fulfillment as their story comes to its conclusion. Once again, the author spins a complicated and compelling web of romance and suspense that readers can’t put down.

Full circle. Words that will so come to mean so much after this reading this book. The main characters in this 4th book in a series (can be read as a standalone) are Rusty and Harper. Rusty is searching and trying to atone for sins of the past and Harper is trying to right a wrong of the past. Their paths intersect in an interesting plot twist. The story is well written and fast paced and comes to a very satisfying conclusion.

This one has it all suspense, intrigue and finally love. In her new installment in this series, there were a lot of charters all necessary in there own way. But the main characters were well developed and you find your self-rooting for them. The sensual parts were just that sensual without too much info. I enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down till I was done. I was given a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest opinion.

Rusty is one complicated sexy smart man. Harper is one smart tough as nails woman. They both have some baggage from their past. They meet under extreme circumstances. The connection they have is life altering. Could not wait to see where the story would go. Did not see the last twist in this story coming. Amazing read.

Unspeakable – Elisabeth Naughton I was fortunate to receive this novel from Netgalley.com as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review. Russell ‘Rusty’ McClane considers himself to be a black sheep of sorts – adopted into his family as a teenager, he has ties to the past that will not let him go, and they continue to impact him now. Owner and proprietor of The Black Sheep Winery by day, by night he’s undertaking much more dangerous activities in hopes of making amends. Then the police show up at the door, investigating the disappearance of a young woman, that was last seen with Rusty. Harper Blake is a disgraced cop. Wrongly accused of sexual harassment by a trusted partner, she now works as a private investigator for defense attorney Andrew Renwick. She is asked to assess the missing woman case and Rusty McClane’s possible involvement in her disappearance, in preparation for his arrest. But when she meets Rusty, the attraction is undeniable, even though she senses that he knows more than he’s sharing. As she investigates further, she learns of the Plague, and Rusty’s involvement in something big…but what? This book combines complex, likable characters with edge of your seat suspense, along with very steamy sex to create an un-put-downable story! Easily read as a standalone, the fact that it is the fourth in a series is a huge bonus for me! I WILL be reading them all. I am amazed that I haven’t discovered Elisabeth Naughton before this! If I could give it 6 stars, I would! Fantastic!!

Unspeakable is Rusty McClane’s story. Rusty is a vigilante who is working to clear his demons. His biological family wasn’t all that they were supposed to be. They didn’t show love, they were well off but had so many secrets and those secrets haunt Rusty. When he meets Harper Blake his need to protect and keep his heart walled off triples. Rusty and Harper are amazing together. While Rusty is protective, Harper is strong and independent. Together they work. He protects her, she stands strong, and together they can take on any problem they encounter. Danger, intrigue, and romance are all part of Elizabeth Naughton’s talent. I was pulled in, was invested in the amazing characters, and kept reading until the very last page needing to know what was going to happen. There is so much action, so many twists and turn, and the suspense is wonderful.

4.25 stars--UNSPEAKABLE is the fourth instalment in Elisabeth Naughton’s contemporary, adult DEADLY SECRETS romantic suspense series focusing on the four adopted McClane siblings (Ethan, Alex, Kelsey, Rusty). This is vintner and vigilante Russell ‘Rusty’ McClane, and legal investigator Harper Blake’s story line. UNSPEAKABLE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Told from several third person perspectives (Rusty and Harper) UNSPEAKABLE follows vintner Russell ‘Rusty’ McClane, and legal investigator Harper Blake as they cross paths investigating a potential human trafficking ring with possible connections to a number of murdered and missing sex workers and strippers in and around the Portland, Oregon area. When Russell is ID’d as a possible suspect in the disappearance of an underage stripper, former police officer turned legal investigator Harper Blake believes Russell is hiding more than meets the eye. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Harper and Rusty, as our leading couple work together to uncover and reveal the truth. Rusty McClane has devoted his life to protecting those unable to protect themselves. A past mired in darkness and loss, Rusty specializes in locating the missing and lost- a one man operation determined to avenge for sins of the past. Former police officer Harper Blake has never met a man like Rusty McClane but Harper suspects Rusty is not whom the police report him to be. There is something about our hero that draws Harper like a moth to a flame, a flame that burns hotter with every encounter. The relationship between Harper and Rusty is one of immediate attraction but Rusty is the Portland PD’s current suspect in a rash of missing under-aged girls, and for all intents and purposes is off limits. Working together Rusty will reveal the truth behind his vigilante tactics, as Harper slowly falls for the man before her eyes. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including all of Rusty’s siblings: Ethan and Samantha (Repressed #1), Alex and Raegan (Gone #2), Kelsey and Hunter (Protected #3), as well as youngest brother Thomas, their parents Hannah and Michael McClane; Harper’s boss Andrew Renwick, detectives Brett Callahan, and Noah Pierce. The requisite evil has many faces, some familiar to both of our leading couple. I am not sure if the author has plans for Thomas-he is a senior in high school, and his story would require an advance of several years in the series. UNSPEAKABLE is a story of family, betrayal, vengeance and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and intelligent; the characters are spirited and dynamic; the romance is provocative and edgy. UNSPEAKABLE is an engaging and intense story of mystery wherein two people are pulled together by the seedy underbelly of the human sex trade.

I truly enjoyed this story. It is an intense, well-planned story, with a lot of action, suspense, mystery, romance, and just plain who dunnit type of story. Rusty has been a loner for so long that when Harper is bound to prove him guilty he goes in a tail spin. Rusty is accused of ??? Girls are missing and now he is being questioned for these young girls being gone. But what really is going on in the heat of the night with Rusty, does he really have anything to be ashamed of?? He thinks he does so many questions and there is one person who is going to get to the bottom of is mystery and that is Harper. Harper is an investigator for a law firm, and she must find out who is taking young girls. Fist suspect is Rusty, she doesn’t trust him, he acts too stoic, as if he could care less. However, underneath that demeanor is a man, who has the uncontrollable urgency to find and protect. But, protect who? Rusty is only human and what he wants he should never have, he doesn’t deserve it. Talk about being a martyr. This is so good, I could go on, and on, but it would be better if you get the book and read it for yourself. It is well worth it. I have read almost all of Elisabeth Naughtons books, and I have never regretted it. Thank you for the opportunity to read a awesome, well written, story. I was given this book by the publisher and am giving my personal review on the story.

Although all of the children in the McClane family were adopted and had troubled pasts, Rusty was the only one who thought of himself as a black sheep. Rusty’s guilt over someone he loved tormented him daily. Unbeknownst to his family, Rusty was on a mission; spending nights in unsavory places, trying to ease his pain. Legal Investigator, Harper Blake, could always tell when someone was hiding secrets. And bad boy, Rusty McClane, she knew, was hiding some dark ones. Harper was convinced that Rusty had something to do with the recent missing teenage girls. Harper was a strong independent woman who knew how to take care of herself. Bad boys, however, had always been her weakness, and Rusty McClane was poking at her heart. He wasn’t the average bad boy, no Rusty, was a white knight, dressed in black, fighting to heal his soul. And, Harper couldn’t help but to find him irresistible. Unspeakable is a dark, fast-paced, sexy romantic thriller. It’s well-crafted, with likable characters, natural dialogue, and twists, I never saw coming. Thank you, Montlake Romance and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

This is a great series and I am a huge fan of EN's writing. Rusty and Harper were written to be very believable and relateable characters. The appearance of the entire McClane Clan is an added bonus. My only glitch with this story-line is the scenes where Rusty & Harper are at the auction to rescue a young girl and they end up getting all hot & heavy. Just so weird given the purpose of where they are. Yes, this is romantic-suspense but that didn't sit right with me.

This book was AMAZING! One of those where you squeeze a page or two in every single chance you get. Even though this is Book 4 in the series and characters in the other stories do appear, this book stands perfectly fine on its own. It kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire ride and the author threw in a lot of unexpected twists. I loved both Rusty and Harper's characters. Great chemistry between the two. There was one part that "hopefully" was setting us up for Thomas' story eventually but I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Unspeakable by Elisabeth Naughton Series: Deadly Secrets #4 4.5 Stars - I’ll be honest, I was a bit nervous to read this book after reading her House of Sin series (because those are just not my thing) and with Rusty having a “dark past” I was super worried this was going to follow in the same path. I was wrong! This book is written like all the Naughton books I’ve loved before. Her suspense was good, seeing the family from the previous books was nice and Rusty himself, felt real. He wasn’t an over the top alpha that drove you crazy with possessiveness. He was a perfect balance. Harper’s character fit with him easily. The two had great chemistry and the story progressed well. I am glad I read this book. *Received and ARC in exchange for an honest review* ~Paragraphs and Petticoats~
