Wow, Unwrapping Your Passion is a fabulous story, written by a woman who is deaf but is so very capable and talented in HEARING the wisdom that lies within. Karen guides us to learn how to reveal your passion and birth your masterpiece! It's time to explore what your gift is and step into the doors that will open to you. A beautiful book that allows your passion to be realized.
I recently met with Karen Putz and picked her brain for some time about ways to improve sales of my own book. Passion indeed exudes from her in all she does. When she asked if I would be willing to review her book on passion, it was difficult for me to say no. I thought I'd be getting just one more book full of talking points about life improvement, living life to the fullest, maximizing my potential, you know, a self-improvement book. When I received a free pre-release copy to read for this review, I opened it reluctantly. Though I had spent an hour experiencing Karen's passion for life, I had no great expectation for the book. My shelves are lined with self-help manifestos that gather dust because they are written to be sold and then sit on shelves gathering dust. This is not one of those books. When I opened Unwrapping Your Passion, I leaned back to get more comfortable, but I noticed by the end of chapter one I was leaning forward, really getting into what she had to say. This is NOT just a self-help book! Yes, there are elements of that included, but it goes far deeper than that. One of the key points she brought up deals with perfection. We frequently think things have to be perfect for us to achieve our passion, but it is far from true. I'll leave this with one quote I found telling -- and to me it marked the essence of living life with passion, not with living only with perfection: I left a mistake in one of my books after publishing it. I could have easily taken it down and fixed the typo. But I left it in there. I often give this book as a gift or hand it out at workshops. It’s a simple writing journal with inspirational quotes about passion. The book is a reminder to keep our focus on our joy—to do things in life that matter and to live with gratitude. The typo I left in there is a wonderful reminder to celebrate life in all it’s glorious imperfections. For a self-help book that is much more than just that, I highly recommend Unwrapping Your Passion.
This book has really been a blessing to me and I think all of us are searching for ways we can make a difference in the world. Karen not only talked about her own life, but I like the fact that she met so many people who were on the same journey. There are thought-provoking questions to answer as you go, and don't skip over them, because it gives you great ideas to use in your own life.
Fantastic book!! Some people will even say it was so good that they couldn’t put it down. But, that wouldn’t be true, for me at least. It is a very good book and it definitely is one that I looked forward to getting back in to every time I sat down to read. I could put it down, but I FORCED myself. Rather than doing a quick read and write a review about the contents, I wanted to take a full month or so and deeply read and review the impact of this book. When I came across exercises, I spent the time to really consider what I wanted out of life, what was holding me back, and how to break through those barriers. If you would have asked me to read a personal growth book 5 years ago I would have told you “those books are for weak minds, where the author lures you in with promises of wealth and happiness, all while pocketing the cash of the people foolish enough to buy the book.” This is one area of my life I am glad to admit that I was totally wrong. ‘Unwrapping your Passion’ is a great easy read. I really enjoyed the varied, but highly relatable stories throughout. Some of my favorites were the story Craig MacFarlane and another about Team Hoyt. Imagine being blind and having the ability to stare down fear while independently skiing downhill or going over a waterski jump and not knowing where or how you will land. Imagine running in over 1000 races, including Ironman triathlons, while towing or pushing your adult son, just to allow your son to have that sense of freedom and participation. THAT’S passion, and that’s what struck me. ‘Unwrapping Your Passion’ did just that. I have always sought after financial and time freedom. My wife and I started a home-based business to support that dream, but life kept getting in the way of consistent action. Through the exercises in ‘Unwrapping your Passion’ I really came to understand that my passion lies in playing music and traveling. Fortunately, my wife shares both of those passions with me. We are exploring the skills needed to lead worship together at church in the future. We also realized that we could never do the level of traveling we want with my current job hanging around my neck like an albatross. This thought lead to renewed focus on growing our business. The very next couple we invited to join our business share our passion to travel but they are also constrained by the same day-job-scenario. Now we are excited to support each other and help our businesses grow together. We will be experiencing the same liberating, passion-driven life others from the book have experienced. ‘Unwrapping Your Passion’ also does a fantastic job of focusing on the very best nuggets of knowledge from some of the greatest thought leaders of personal development and business success; authors like Jack Canfield, Zig Ziglar, and Jim Rohn. Thanks to Karen Putz, not only do I have renewed focus on my personal passions, I now have a few more items on my personal reading list to help keep the passion alive. If you have no idea what you want to get out of life, this book is for you. If you are a student of continuing personal growth, this book is for you. If your personal growth and dreams have become stagnate, you need a fresh boost, and this book is for you. If your opinions of personal growth are more aligned with thoughts I had a few years ago, but you are curious enough to have found this review, this book is DEFINITELY for you! Good luck and God bless.
WILL YOU READ THIS BOOK OR CONTINUE DIEING WHILE STILL LIVING? This is an astonishing book by a remarkable woman. When you learn the true story behind the author's passion you will be blown away. Someone once told me that "passion" keeps you moving forward till you find your purpose. Few know how to define passion. Some think it is one thing. Some are afraid of the word "passion". The question is, "will you read this book or continue to die while living?".
