Wanted: Dating coach to help hot nerd win back the woman of his dreams...

Picture this - I'm ready to win back the love of my life, and I'm going big this time. We're talking boom box, sing her name in the rain, let the whole damn neighborhood know I'm good and ready this time around. After all, if you're going to grand gesture the ever-loving hell out of a second chance, you need to pull out all the stops.

There's only one little problem.

My college girlfriend isn't the one who shows up when I play my "I'll do anything to win you back" tune.

The woman who flings open the second-floor window tells me my ex doesn't live here anymore. But she'll help me win her back. Anything for romance, anything for a guy so willing to go big for love. And that's what I want at first. Until I get to know my new "romance coach" and discover she's funny, clever, and keeps me on my toes. And boy, do I ever need that.

Now I don't want to win anyone else's heart. I want the woman who's been helping me all along.

Trouble is - she thinks I'm in love with someone else, and when we take off on a road trip, everything I think I know about women is about to be unzipped and turned inside out.

Unzipped by Lauren Blakely (Audiobook) Narrated by: Joe Arden and Andi Arndt 4 Stars - This book started out with a perfect meet cute that had me laughing and continued along with all the great movie references and the sweet story line. Blakley is great at Rom-Com. Joe Arden and Andi Arndt did a fantastic job as usual. I never hesitate when downloading an audiobook from either of these narrators. ~ Paragraphs and Petticoats ~

As the synopsis clearly states, hotly handsome but also sweet on the nerdy side is Tom (aka Kyler) who is still stuck in love with the idea of being in love with a girl that dumped him eight years ago. Wanting to make things right and win her back becomes a mission possible this particular Tom, who is somewhat clueless about women, thinks he can pull off if he just tries hard enough. Who would have guessed a heroine named Finley would finally make him see the light in more ways than one. I couldn’t help but visualize Jess, from the hit TV show “New Girl”, as a face to put to this leading lady, which is a good thing because I love her sassiness and off the cuff wit, as well. Finley jumps on Tom’s band wagon without hesitation for a side reason all of her own. Neither expected to find themselves able to finish each other’s sentences and be crazy attracted to one another. Not surprisingly, Finley is slower to let go of her concerns and risk her heart being broken again. This attractive, fun to be around, destined for each other, love birds came across quirky and funny at the same time. You can’t help but enjoy their time together. Here’s to hoping I’ve unzipped just enough details to help you decide if this book is a good fit for you. Overall, it was an entertaining, sweet but very steamy, romantic read. Something I’ve come to expect with each new release by this author. Title: Unzipped, Author: Lauren Blakely, Pages: 306, stand-alone, HEA, sweet but very steamy read, quirky, likable main couple who finish each other sentences, some relationship angst, been hurt before heroine. 3.5* Unzipped is a cute, fun, easy read. The witty banter is trademark Lauren Blakely and will put a smile on your face. As someone who was a teen in the 80s I got a kick out of all the movie references, they brought back some fun memories. And honestly, this book could be an 80s romcom- Tom starring as the endearingly clueless hero and Finley the sweet and quirky heroine who sets out wanting to help him reconnect with his old girlfriend but finds herself falling for him instead. Tom and Finely were very likable characters and I enjoyed "watching" them fall for each other.

Unzipped by Lauren Blakely is a fun and enjoyable romantic comedy starring two great characters, Finley and Kyler (Tom). Filled with 80's movie references, sweet pretend dates, and an exciting adventure as Finley and Kyler go off on a road trip to help Kyler win back his college girlfriend whom he lost. But things change as Kyler realizes he is falling for Finley. The only problem? She thinks that she's his romance coach, not his romantic interest. The connection and bond they develop is deeper than either could have expected, it's just going to take some convincing on Kyler's part to convince Finley it's real. I found this to be a fun and fantastic story. The emotion, the wit, and the romance make this book a must read. Absolutely well crafted story and I happily recommend. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy of this book I received for free in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)

UNZIPPED by Lauren Blakely is a contemporary, adult, stand alone, romance story line focusing on roller coaster developer Kyler ‘Tom’ Sutcliffe, and television comedy writer Finley Barker. Told from dual first person perspectives (Tom and Finley) UNZIPPED follows the accidental meeting and slow building relationship between twenty-eight year old, roller coaster developer Kyler ‘Tom’ Sutcliffe, and twenty-nine year old, television comedy writer Finley Barker. Kyler Sutcliffe aka Tom, wants to rekindle a romance with his college sweetheart Cassie, the woman who broke his heart but also the woman he hasn’t seen for close to eight years. Arriving at Cassie’s last known residence, and in an effort to win her over ala Lloyd Dobler style from the movie ‘Say Anything’, Tom will come face to face with television writer Finley Barker, who sees Tom’s challenge in the seduction department. Finley agrees to ‘teach’ a bewildered and baffled Tom the subtle art of wooing and romance, as she struggles to keep from falling in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Finley and Tom, and the potential fall-out as Finley’s life begins to spiral out of control, and Tom continues to move towards the woman he thought he once loved. UNZIPPED is a story of friendship and fun with great back and forth banter between our leading couple. Finley battles between head and heart knowing Tom has only one goal in mind, and that goal will ultimately not include our story line heroine. Tom has always wondered what happened and why to make Cassie walk away without looking back. Little does our hero realize that there is more to the story than he could have ever imagined. The relationship between Finley and Tom begins accidentally when Tom arrives to woo his former love. Finley is a film buff who is the perfect foil to Tom’s witticisms and movie quotes; their cross country journey finds there is more in common than they had previously expected. The $ex scenes are passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. We are introduced to Tom’s brothers Ransom, Nash and Gannon who are a constant source of teasing and taunts; their cousin Gabe; Finley’s friend and book store owner Arden, as well as Bruce Fargo, the man ultimately in charge of Finley’s future. There is something developing between Gabe and Arden. UNZIPPED is a fast paced, energetic and humorous story line. The premise is fun and spirited; the characters are quirky, clueless and charismatic; the romance is passionate and entertaining. UNZIPPED is an enjoyable and entertaining story of one man’s attempts to woo, failing miserably, but in the end falling for his perfect match.

3.5 stars I'm usually a giant fan of all of Lauren Blakely's books. However, I will admit Unzipped wasn't my favorite. That's not to say I didn't like it. The story definitely gets better as it goes on. But overall, I thought it was just ok. Lauren Blakely continues to be the banter queen. I enjoyed Kyler and Finley's back and forth. Finley in particular was fantastic. I loved her sass and her quick wit. Lauren writes the best women. Always smart and delightfully entertaining. Love them. Unfortunately, I did have a problem with Kyler. I don't know what it was about him but he rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it was his one too many eighties movie reference or his obliviousness but he didn't do it for me. I'm usually down for a sexy nerd. It just fell flat for me this time. I have to wonder if I did myself a disservice by listening to the audiobook first instead of reading the ebook. I'm not usually an audio girl but my love for Lauren Blakely books and my inability to be patient made me dive right in. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. I'm not the biggest fan of the male narrator. He's just not my cup of tea.

This was a funny and sweet romance that pays homage to the wonder of romcoms. I loved all the 80's movie references and nods to pop culture. Finley and Kyler (Tom) were hilariously quirky and it was so much fun watching life imitate art. I both read and listened to the audiobook of this one. Joe Arden's performance was beyond amazing and he could not have been more perfectly cast as the lovable and slightly clueless Tom. He played the endearing and adorkable nerdy hero so well, but also delivered when things got hot and heavy. Joe Arden and Andi Arndt are fast becoming one of my very favorite narrating pairs. Even though Unzipped is not duet narration, I did enjoy that the text messages are cut together like it is. The story itself doesn't reinvent the romcom wheel, but rather highlights the parts audiences love so much when they watch these films. There isn't a lot of drama or angst which I appreciated. I couldn't wipe the smile from my face while listening to this one and my heart was left all nice and gooey (as it should be after a romcom). Fans of Lauren Blakely will not be disappointed! Another great story from Lauren Blakely! This was so cute and funny. I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion. I was a tiny bit nervous going into this one based on the summary, but I absolutely adored it. Both of the main characters were amazing, although the guy was kind of clueless at times…but in a sweet way. It’s not really spoiling anything since it’s in the summary, but Kyler (aka Tom for most of the book) big gestured the “wrong” woman, but in a roundabout way, she ended up being Mrs. Right after all. There was a big emphasis on the 80s, movies, and comedy in this, which was a refreshing breath of air. I’m barely an 80s baby, but I can appreciate the movies from that decade like everyone else. They were mostly over-the-top romantic, and this book definitely took after them in certain aspects. I loved Finley; she was a hoot. I wished she were a real person so I could be friends with her. Tom was super adorable, the epitome of a hot nerd. I also really liked their jobs; I haven’t seen any characters with his job before, and hers is slightly unique as well. We mostly focused on these two for the entire book, but I loved the small sections with his family and her dad. I also really liked seeing some of the people in the town. At least two of them will be in an upcoming book, and maybe more if they weren’t in her previous books. I highly recommend you check out this author’s books if you like contemporary romance! I finished this in one day. Her books are always entertaining, and super fast/enjoyable reads.

Clearly by his meticulously planned big gesture to reconnect with his college girlfriend, Kyler, aka Tom, doesn’t understand the first thing about women nor does he understand that he can’t rely on gimmicks and his love of 80s pop culture, especially movies, to woo back a woman he hasn’t seen in over 8 years. And even though Tom is adorkable and quite intelligent, the fact that he’s clueless about what the opposite sex wants and needs is made clearer and clearer the longer he communicates his thoughts and ideas to the woman who had the ‘unfortunate or fortunate’ opportunity, depending how you look at it, to witness his public humiliation…maybe that’s too strong a word but it’s definitely something I wouldn’t want to see again;) From awkward strangers to quirky fast friends to a couple who don’t quite know how to act on their growing feelings towards each other because the basis of their time together has been about Tom reconnecting with the woman who could have been the love of his life. But as Tom and Finley’s story continues, it becomes beyond clear just how perfectly matched these two are…now Tom just has to find a way to prove to Finley that she’s the only one he wants regardless of how they met and Finley needs to be willing to put her heart on the line again after it was mangled by her last boyfriend who used her as a rebound and then went back to the woman he had always and only wanted, his ex. What I loved most about Finley was her honesty when it came to, not only helping Tom come up with a new plan to ‘get back his lost love’ but also laying out the reasons that his ‘Say Anything’ scene remake was not something he should ever try again. And because Finley can’t help but be her perceptive self, she had Tom pegged from the very beginning, which helps her to truly get to know who he is and it also helps him to learn what he truly wants in a significant other - not the idealized version he’s had in his head for the past 8 years. The use of movie one-liners was a perfect way to bond Tom and Finley, because it not only illustrated how much they had in common but it also allowed their relationship to grow naturally, even if his original reason for meeting Finley had to do with another woman. I loved the whole art imitating life plot line, especially since Finley could use the reality of Tom’s actions as well as her own to hopefully help restore life to her flatlining comedy series, but I also felt like even if it didn’t save her show, she could easily come up with new ideas based on everything she experienced with Tom while being his travel buddy as well as his mentor, his friend, and ultimately, the woman he wanted. UnZipped is an adorable, feel good romantic comedy - one that reminded me of all the 80s movies that I loved and just how awkward things can be at the beginning of new relationships, especially ones that start in unique ways. I’m glad Lauren Blakely gave her readers both her main characters’ perspectives because they each had their own unique way of seeing things and their respective pasts led them to who they are today, which is pivotal in truly understanding why these two make the decisions they do. I’m sure after reading UnZipped there was a spike in the amount of 80s romantic comedies watched because that’s exactly what I wanted to do after finishing Tom and Finley’s story. 4 Poison Apples

4.9 Stars Finley is the creator and writer of a tv comedy show, but the network is not really excited about renewing her show. She has to write six amazingly funny episodes asap! Enter Kyler. Eight years after his college love Cassie broke up with him and issued the ultimatum that he grow up and make something of himself, he's finally ready to win her back. A la Say Anything - boom box and everything! Only worse. ☺ Unfortunately it's Finley's window he's embarrassing himself under! LOL! Fin is super excited by Kyler's story - she could use it for her show!!! And off they go on a mission to win back the love of Kyler's life. But what if you fall for someone else on the way ??? ...... What will happen with Finley & Kyler-Tom? Will there be a HEA? READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! ☺ ════════════════════ Awww ... that was adorable and hilarious! Kyler is so sweet. Thinking that Cassie was just pining away for him these last decade! He believes that she will take him back when he shows up with his great gesture. And poor Finley. She's kinda mega attracted to Kyler/Tom, but she won't allow herself to fall for him because the exact same thing happened with her ex - the ex that was still in love with his ex! But of course those two can't resist falling for each other ... and the reader has an amazing time watching it happen! I really enjoyed reading this story! So funny, sweet, California-ish, adorable and roadtrippy and movie-quote-y and a bit heartbreaking too ... I might have cried a tear or two .... Amazing Rom-Com!! Plus also ... I wouldn't mind seeing this on Netflix one day! Oh and the only thing that was a bit weird. All those brothers and cousins of Kyler and the book store owner lady and her guy? What's up with them? Do they have their own books already or are we getting their story one day??? There was to much in this book about people and their story - it was a bit confusing/redundant ... unless we're getting their books soon! In that case: GIMMEEE!☺ (edited after finishing the book - it's explained a bit at the end - and also I was doing some goodreadsy research - I now know that Gabe and Arden will be the stars in Best Laid Plans - coming in March. And there are lots of Lauren books coming in 2019 - maybe we'll get more of the people from Unzipped - also - a few are already happily married.) ► UNZIPPED was such a fun and adorable half meet-cute-getting-to-know-you - half road-trip love story!! Run to your nearest amazon asap for your own Kyler Tom - this one is MINE !!!

I adored this book.  It's got the perfect mix of humor and fun, with the perfect level of heat and the tiniest bit of angst.  From the cute-meet moment to the big gesture finish, I just couldn't put it down.   Our heroine is quirky and enthusiastic about life.  She's got just the right amount of goofiness that makes her playful but not annoying.  (I kinda want to be her when I grow up.)  He's also just a hoot.  Sexy, smart, and also charmingly goofy - a great match for our girl.  The flirty banter just flows between them and it makes for a highly entertaining read.  With characters who are adorably dorky (and who own in), Unzipped is lighthearted, charming, funny, and easy to read.  I highly recommend it to anyone who loves romantic comedies and/or a lot of fun in their reads.   **Review given honestly and freely after receipt of a reader copy. This opinion is completely my own and was not influenced in any way.**

Lauren Blakely does it again with another fun RomCom that is so darn adorable and sweet! And bonus, this one is chock full of 80's movie quotes!! Kyler (Tom) meets Finley when he attempts to get his old high school gf's attention via the Lloyd Dobbler boombox routine, which was absolutely unforgettable and epic!! She is not home, however her neighbor Finley is. And thus starts this fun, flirty, adorably funny journey for these two wonderful people. They have amazing chemistry and I love how their relationship grows with each moment they spend together. Very entertaining read sure to leave a smile on your face!

A clueless romantic and a flirty script writer. The makings of a HEA! UnZipped by Lauren Blakely was an honest to god, feel good, loved every moment of it story. It’s the ;meet-cute’ to end all ‘meet-cutes’. So simple and yet so darned funny!! Kyler Sutcliffe, or Tom as he comes to be know as, is at an impasse in his life. He thinks he lost ‘the one’ way back in college when he way unceremoniously dumped by Cassie, his then girlfriend. Now, eight years later, he’s done what she suggested back then. He’s got his act together, he’s got a great job that he loves and all is right in his world. Except for that one thing. He doesn’t have the girl. But, he’s determined to change all that. He knows where she lives and he’s got a plan to win her back. Go big or go home! Is his motto and that’s what he sets out to do. He’s gonna wow her back into his life and himself back into her heart. He’s got ‘the song’, he’s got the boom box and… After singing his heart out, he discovers that Cassie isn’t even home. Infact, he’s at the wrong house entirely. Finley Barker, loves comedy. She lives and writes it, and sees the funny side in everything. It’s her world, but that world is hanging out by the edge of its teeth! So, when a priceless piece of comedic genius falls into her lap by way of Tom, she knows just what to do. This guy is hopeless in love and she is determined to set him straight. Lessons in how to be the perfect boyfriend, a road trip with stops along the way, fun, laughter and a montage of movie scenes expressing their feeling and Tom and Finley don’t know where pretend ends and reality takes over. Will they side off into the sunset together or will the be forever searching for their missing half? Gosh, I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this book. It was super, super good and so much fan to read. A humorous, delightful warm-hearted story from start to finish.

This story is fun, fun, fun. Tom is the clueless “wanna be” romeo, hoping to impress an old flame. And Finley, a spunky comedy writer with her own show who has the job of teaching Tom the best way to achieve his goal. The bantering and fun they have together had me stitching at times, the laughs kept a coming and also guessing as to when they’d realize their friendship was slowly changing. Unzipped was an awesome read, a wonderful storyline, brilliantly written with likeable, funny characters. A definite must read, I highly recommend it! is

4.5 Fun & Flirty Stars! I had so much fun reading this latest rom-com by Lauren Blakely. I loved the meet cute between Finley & Kylar (Tom). Their accidental meeting lead to Finley helping Tom win back the woman who broke his heart in college, and in return, Tom would help Finley with her new show that she needed to write. This took them on practice dates, and a road trip filled with fun and unique experiences. Finley and Tom bonded over their shared love of 80's movies, and going on new exciting adventures. Finley was second choice with her last relationship, so she doesn't want to believe Tom when he tells her that he has developed feelings for her. As their adventures bring them closer together, and their attraction more electric, Finley realizes that Tom had her at 'Hello'! One of the things I love about Blakely's stories, besides the witty banter she does so well, is the uncommon jobs her characters have, the unique foods they enjoy, and unconventional spots they visit. She opens up a new, fresh, and exciting world of possibilities to us. This is a heartwarming, fun and sexy romance that you will want to read again and again!

**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review** Lauren Blakely's Unzipped is a fun friends to lovers romantic comedy that is chock full of quotes from so many awesome 80's movies! Such a fun read! When we meet Kyler (Tom), he has his heart set on reconnecting, and winning back, his college sweetheart. He might have been immature when they were together originally, but now he's grown up and is ready for a serious relationship. He makes plans and he goes to make a grand gesture at her home, but when he comes face to face with the woman living in the house, she is not at all Cassie, the woman he is looking for. Finley, who makes her living writing comedy shows, sees the "show" put on by Tom she is immediately amused and when she finds out what he is trying to do, she explains that her neighbor is who he is looking for, but that she's never around. Instead of turning him away completely, she tells him that she'll help him figure out another way to work on getting Cassie back - a way that will present him in the best light possible. As Finley and Tom spend time together, they learn more and more about one another and we as readers are treated to not only an amazing walk down memory lane with the use of the 80's movie lines, but also their talk of all of the possible romantic tropes is another amazing part of this book. The question is, as these two friends work to help one another, will their feelings for one another grow? I enjoyed this book quite a bit and the adventure that Blakely took us on was full of the ups and downs that you experience not only in a relationship, but on rollercoasters too! If you're looking for a book that will make you smile, this one will definitely do it!

This book will zip you in & won’t let go! I loved this rom-com! I laughed, I swooned & I enjoyed this original story so much! The main characters, Kyler/Tom and Finley, were also original and engaging. They were learning about themselves, each other while falling in love on this journey they took. I was rooting for them so much. This book kept me wanting to read til I got to the end - that is how much I was zipped into the book! See what I did there?! If you like a quick, fun, romantic read like I do, then read this book!
