I have read this book twice in the last year and each time I am more inspired to achieve greatness as a black man in America. Mr. Washington's autobiography shows not only desire for his own education, but for his family and the betterment of all African Americans during the Reconstruction period. One of the most interesting parts of this book, Mr. Washington describes a scene, which took place over one hundred years ago, that is still continuing today in the African American community. The time for excuses is over. We are living in an era that our ancestor's dreamed and prayed to see. If Mr. Washington can achieve all that he did in his short time on earth, then others who live in this less oppressed society can do more than what we have done for the betterment of our present and future.
