About the Author

Born in the Ohio Valley, Terri relocated below the Mason Dixon line in the early 1990s after experiencing three blizzards in eighteen months. Seeking warmer climes and a career in the music business, she landed in Nashville and learned fast that getting a job on Music Row is not as easy as it sounds. Ironically, it wasn't until she left Nashville and moved to Arkansas that she found her way into radio. Never one to stay put for long, Terri eventually moved to the East Coast, settled near the ocean, earned her bachelor’s degree while raising a daughter, and joined cubicle land once again. But a love of romance novels soon found her writing her own. Five years and many pages later, in 2012, she was named a finalist in the Romance Writers of America® Golden Heart® contest. An agent and contract soon followed. Terri now resides in Virginia with a teenager, a Yorkipoo, and two fat and happy tabbies.

In Up To The Challenge by Terri Osborne, Lucas is back on Anchor Island, the place he's always been desperate to escape from. But when his father has a heart attack and help is needed in the family business, Lucas steps up. Little does anyone know that he's actually on a forced leave from the law office he practices with. Ever since his former fiancee hooked up with his brother, Lucas has felt out of sorts. He's not really mourning the loss of her as much as the humiliation...deep down he knows they would have not made it work together. Sid has lived on Anchor Island for much of her life with her brother. She has also been half in love with Lucas for years...but she hides it well. Most people think of Sid as one of the guys, but when Sid ends up working with Lucas in his family's restaurant to help out, Lucas starts to see a whole new side of Sid...one he is extremely attracted to. The air between Lucas and Sid sizzles with mutual attraction and soon they are involved in a temporary 'fling'. Lucas will not be staying and Sid will not be leaving. But somewhere along the way what they have becomes much more than a fling...even if neither of them will admit it to the other. When the time for Lucas to leave comes sooner than they expected will their hearts survive? Can they move on without each other? Terri Osburn gives us another wonderful visit to Anchor Island. I love the small town quirkiness, the interactions, and life by the water! Sid is an independent, hard worker who has no idea how gorgeous she is! She always seems so surprised by this and unassuming, making her sound like a great friend to have! Sid has her goals...all of which include staying on Anchor Island. Lucas has always felt like he was in his brother's shadow, though I'm not really sure why. He's always felt like he has to prove himself, strives for the best and for better...whatever that might be. He was a bit of a puzzle to figure out, but I admired his way of being and how he did care about others...he just had a harder time showing it. He is very driven. Sid and Lucas are both very like-able and realistic characters that you can envision in your head. The interactions between Sid and Lucas were highly amusing at times...the way they'd poke at each other, make bets, and tease. The chemistry is definitely there between them, and I was really curious to see how or if they could work things out between them when both of them were so determined to stay where they were in life. One of them might have to decide what's really important or they will both lose out. Up To The Challenge is a fast paced, very well written romance that is every thing you could want to take you away for a few hours! Terri writes so smoothly, the scenes flow so well across the pages effortlessly. Besides the strong, very like-able characters in Up To The Challenge, Terri's descriptives of Anchor Island will take you there...from the beach scene to the storm. Although this is book 2 in Terri's Anchor Island series, it stands well alone. (Although I do recommend the first book in the series too because it's just as great!) I'd recommend this to any romance reader who likes to laugh a bit along the way and really get to know the characters.

Five stars for Terri Osburn's Anchor Island novels. Osburn's second book in the Anchor Island series, Up to the Challenge, focuses on lawyer Lucas Dempsey, who returns to Anchor Island about six weeks after the conclusion of Meant to Be. I don't want to give any spoilers away, however you can see by the description below that this book is focused on Sid and Lucas helps his family with their restaurant while his father recovers from a heart attack. We know that Sid has had a crush on Lucas since high school, but could this be her time to have him discover her too? I loved Sid in Meant to Be as she was totally upfront and in-your-face, but in a good way. You know, that rough exterior with a heart of gold. But apparently Sid's exterior might be desired by Hef for some photo ops and soon, it seems, but Lucas as well. Can Lucas find happiness on Anchor Island or will his desires for success lead him away? Can Sid learn to trust her heart and find her place on island? Once again Osburn has written a beautiful and touching story. I love the fact that her characters are not anywhere near perfect, but evolve with each other in growth and love. The family Dempsey is wonderful and finding out more about Sid's brother and Will - well, I can only hope that book three, Home to Stay (to be published in 2014), will explore that relationship in more depth. So to recap, five stars for Terri Osburn's Anchor Island series. It's going on my must-read shelf of Island romances along with Marie Force's McCarthy's of Gansett Island. I loved it and look forward to more from this talented author.

Reviewed by Kim for Read Your Writes Book Reviews We first met Lucas Dempsey in Meant to Be, the first book in the Anchor Island Series. Initially, in that book, Lucas seemed to be a selfish, money-hungry, power-driven guy. But Lucas is a man who sacrificed his own happiness for that of his brother Joe and former fiancée, Beth. He's lost and is always looking for something better because he doesn't think he's good enough for his family. After losing his edge in the courtroom, Lucas’ law firm forces him to take a break. His break just so happens to be at the same time his family needs him the most. Sidney Navarro is a little Tinker Bell who’s feisty, brash, curses like a sailor and is more beautiful than she gives herself credit for. She likes to pretend to be this tough, hard as nails woman, but inside she’s just a softy who is looking for love. But Sid isn’t looking for love from just anyone. No...for years, Sid has had a MAJOR crush on Lucas. Lucas comes back to Anchor Island approximately six weeks after Meant to Be. Lucas is back because his father suffers a heart attack. With Tom Dempsey unable to run the family restaurant for at least six weeks, the Dempsey family (Joe, Beth and Sid) make adjustments to their work schedules to make sure the restaurant doesn’t close down. To everyone’s surprise, Lucas agrees to step in and run the restaurant during the day alongside Sid. Once Sid and Lucas start working side by side, personalities clash and sparks start to fly. It’s not long before these two agree to a six week summer fling with no strings attached. But you know how it goes. It turns out that Lucas and Sid need each other more than they could ever possibly know. Usually with me, I find that sequels have a hard time living up to their predecessors. But not this one. Up to the Challenge exceeded Meant to Be pretty much in every way imaginable. This is one of those books that I like so much I don't know what to say in order to convey how much I like it. I know this sounds cheesy, but I feel really honored to be able to watch these two go on their journey to fall in love and find out if they were up to the challenge. To give a little spoiler, Joe and Lucas finally make up like men do. (Eye rolls. Meaning with as few words as possible.) But one of the best quotes in the book comes from Joe in this moment, “Sometimes you have to be willing to give up what you think you want to get the thing you need.” Source: Montlake via NetGalley

My rating: 4 of 5 ¿¿ Growing up and working with predominantly men, mechanic Sid Navarro is not what you'd call known for her feminine ways. In fact, armed with toolbelt she is a regular around Joe Dempsey's charters, putting a blush on the cheeks of the dockworkers with her potty mouth! A young transplant to Anchor Island, Sid can't imagine living anywhere else. She has been adopted by the inhabitants, especially the Dempsters, who run the local family restaurant, and they know that under the baggy clothes and the foul mouth hides a small bodied but big hearted woman. Determined to make his own mark on the world and get out from under the shadow of his older brother, Lucas Dempsey left Anchor Island over a decade ago to pursue a career in law. He was close to making partner in the prestigeous law firm where he works. But when the call comes that his father suffered a heart attack and is taken to the hospital, he arranges for an immediate leave of absence and returns to Anchor Island to help keep the family business afloat, while his father recovers. Of course it means working with that mouthy mechanic who doesn't know how to dress, but he'll take one for the family if he must. Sid has had a crush on Lucas from afar since high school, but he disappeared shortly after to pursue his career, and never really got to know her. She became fast friends with his brother Joe however, and became important to his parents. Being thrown together working at the restaurant is proving to be a bit of a challenge. She can't help but antagonize him every chance she gets and he gives it right back. After the first few shifts working together however, things suddenly start heating up between them.  For all of her rough and tumble exterior, Lucas is able to glimpse some extremely enticing glimpses of a different Sid underneath and finds himself completely tuned in. He knows she is not necessarily 'law-partner' material, and he also knows his time on the island is limited, but he can't seem to keep his hands to himself. Sid claims she can deal the temporary label just fine and is happy with a casual fling. But when time comes to say goodbye, will they be able to walk away? **** What a fun book!!!! I had a great time with Sid's character....... the back and forth banter.......the stubborn stereo-typical father Dempsey....... Willow's no nonsense approach....... I loved the entire cast of characters!! Right from the first page, you are drawn in to the story and you can tell there is a sense of humour at play with a bit of a bite.......my kinda humour. What is interesting is that it doesn't seem to take away from any of the other 'emotions' that the story calls for either. Some of it is serious, sad, sexy, but mostly you'll find yourself ready with a chuckle.  The close-knit island community is brought to life in such a way, it makes you want to visit, at the very least! The comfort of places you stop daily, where they would worry if you didn't show...... where they know your preferences off hand. Where you don't really have to think about asking or even offering help when it's needed, you just know it's there..... Even if you have your differences among yourselves, when it comes down to it, you always stand as a community. That came across. Lucas has been so focused on being in Joe's shadow, he doesn't realize he is the only one who sees himself as secondary to Joe. No one else does. He has nothing to prove to anyone but himself, and what he doesn't get is the best way to do that is by choosing what he wants, not what he thinks he should, and especially not based on what others might think. Opening up to Sid, who was so different from everything he was looking for in a good 'fit', went a long way in liberating Lucas. Sid was never questioned on her slightly crass language, her cavalier attitude or her sloppy attire.......that is, until Lucas. Once he saw a hint what she was hiding underneath that tough outer veneer, he was curious to find out the full extent of the hidden treasure. Not one for male attention, Sid was always more comfortable in the role of friend than of love interest, which is why she had very limited experience with relationships. She had also, until fairly recently, not been exposed to many friendships with females her own age. So really, Sid was very much an innocent, who was just now starting to discover the power of being a woman. My first experience reading Terri Osburn, but I can guarantee you, it will not be my last!! I am digging her style!!! You won't go wrong with this book if you are looking for a fast-paced, funny, feisty and deliciously spicy read!! ¿A fierce, witty, tight and steamy tale of hidden charm!¿ ** ARC courtesy of NetGalley and Montlake Romance in return for an honest review.**
