"Updates in Colo-Proctology" presents the proceedings of the 2nd Anglo-SwissColo-Proctology Meeting. Most aspects of this fas-growing field are discussed by numerous specialists from both England and Switzerland. The purpose of the book is to present unpublished data on recent research work.
The first section covers technical problems in diagnosis and therapy. With particular emphasis on sphincter-saving techniques. In the second section colorectal cancer is discussed, and the role of the colorectal surgeon in treating gynecological and anal cancer is also presented.
Inflammatory bowel diseases are the subject of the third section, with special reference to bacteriology,
epidemiology and the diagnosis of perianal disease. The fourth section covers important complications due to trauma or surgery, while diverse subjects such as surgical technique, AIDS-related problems and incontinence are presentedin the fifth section. Two main topics, the treatment of rectal cancer and complex anal fistulas, are also discussed by experts in broad terms.
Allcontributions are based either on recent work, and most of them present new approaches to essential problems in colo-proctology.
