"We can't fight evolution, only ride it out and hope the ending is in our favor." Ryder Mattis

As a former Navy Seal, beating the odds is something Ryder excels at. However, the world has changed and his transformation into a vampire gives survival a whole new meaning. If that isn't enough to ruin his life, a plague unleashes utter destruction on humanity. He knows he has what it takes to protect those who survive even if they don't like his rules. What he doesn't count on is a female with stormy eyes and a will to live getting under his skin.

Kayla has lost everyone she loves to the red death. Surviving the plague is one thing, but a vow made to her dying father puts her under the protection of a predator. Surprised at how her body reacts to Ryder when he feeds, she has a hard choice to make. But when tragedy strikes and forces the vampire to give her his blood, she morphs into something no one could ever predict.

The new world doesn't come with a handbook and when fate brands them as potential mates, they are not prepared. They can either battle each other, or band together in a fight for survival. The future holds no guarantees, but being alone might be worse than death.

This is a spin-off series and can be read as a standalone or, with the Eternally Mated series.

When I started reading this book I was not sure where the author was going with this story but having hung into the very end this book was FABULOUS. If you like ex-military guys with the need to protect the world then this may be the book for you to read. If you love vampires, angels and demons then this is a definite must for you to read. If you like women with that something special then pick up this book. What you will not read is a sappy sweet love story. You will get a fight for survival as the world around you dies and a chance to be part of the new world in the making. This book is not overly militarized but it will give you a sense of what people will do to survive. I will have a hard time waiting until the next book comes out as I know this author is not treating this as a single story. Seriously disappointing if it is a single story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is truly a wonderful book. This is Ryder and Kayla's story. The way they meet jas her literally throwing rocks at him oh, she thinks he's an arrogant jerk. And she's not wrong. But unfortunately the life changes that have been thrown his way can be a little rough at first. But she has her own secrets to. Her father's last dying wish was that she find him and have him help her. So was the last note her father wrote She sets off a cross-country to find Ryder. she finds out he's a vampire and is expected to feed him. When marks start appearing on some of the vampires things really start getting weird and when one pops up on Ryder's arms he's even more concerned now they have to find out why this is happening and also what is happening all of a sudden with the vampires having a aversion to sunlight. But the ones with the markings do not. Will they figure it out in time or will divine intervention be the only way to continue on.

I enjoyed this exciting read. I thought that the plot was suspenseful and intriguing. The story line was a entertaining blend of paranormal romance and post apocalyptic survival adventure. The characters were interesting and had great chemistry. It was very easy to like and root for Kayla and Ryder. I felt that this was a great book and a terrific start to this series.

Ryder, a Navy SEAL, returned from an overseas mission, only to be bitten by a beautiful woman, Arsenia. His new circumstances forced him to master his raging hunger. Getting that under control and adapting to his new life, Ryder now faced the devastation caused by the Red Death, a plague destroying people he knew and loved! The archangel Tegan and daughter Ashley, the Angel of Death, gave the vampires some extra protection against the plague by giving a little of their blood. But the humans were defenseless. And where could they run? So Ryder and his comrades took in as many people as they could to provide protection. Healthy and fit men were offered the chance to become vampires. They looked for healthy females of child-bearing age with the hope that, if there were a future, they would repopulate the world. Those women also had to agree to feed the vampires, so some did not stay. Now they were preparing to move out to a new location. The power grid had failed and Ryder sensed something coming. When Kayla’s father dies of the Red Death, she followed his wishes and went to Ryder for protection. Their personalities immediately clash when the strong, independent woman does not take well to the bossy alpha male. But when Kayla is later injured, Ryder must share some of his blood with unexpected consequences! This wonderful book is non-stop action, well written, intriguing and suspenseful. The characters will pull the reader right in, admirable in their fight to save humanity and the future of the world. Grab your copy and see what the future holds for these heroes and those they fight to save.

Ryder is an ex-seal and a primordial vampire, which is a good combination when trying to deal with the devastation of the world. This devastation was caused by Morbus a demon, resulting in the the Red Death. Kayla is one of a few survivors of this plague and results in her being a hybrid of sorts. This storyline is different from most vampire/post apocalyptic stories and very interesting and attention holding. The characters are extremely well developed and are vibrant and vivid. Very good read! I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
