Overview

Upside Down in the Middle of Nowhere by Julie T. Lamana

Armani Curtis can think about only one thing: her tenth birthday. She's having a party, her mama is making a big cake, and she has a good feeling about a certain wrapped box. Turning ten years old is a big deal to Armani. It means she's older, wiser, more responsible. But when Hurricane Katrina hits the Lower Nines of New Orleans and tears her world apart, Armani realizes that being ten means being brave, watching loved ones die, and mustering all her strength to help her family weather the storm. A gripping story of courage and survival, Upside Down in the Middle of Nowhere celebrates the power of hope and love in the face of the unthinkable.

This one hundredpage book is perfectly edited and for middle schoolers. Young people around the ages of 14-16 may enjoy it also. I am an adult and I found it a very good read. I taught langauge arts for 35 years in the public school system. (Reading, Writing, English, Spelling) I taught fifth grade through 12 th grade. If some of my students had used the grammer and spelling some of these reviewers used. I would have made them retake the fundementals. The reviews are second grade level on a fifth grade book. Kids read the way they write. I often make mistakes because my wrists and fingers are twisted from arthritis and I have trouble hitting the right keys. Oh well, at least they are trying. This book is wonderful, but sad. AD

This book is great! Armani can only think of her tenth b-day. But, when the Lower Nines gets struck by Hurricane Katrina, beloved ones die, and Armani gets stuck with her young sisters Sealy and Khayla, while a gastrointestnal diesease lingers in Khayla. Later Armani finds Mama and Georgie, her little bro. Findout the rest in the story. Good luck and happy reading
