Such a sweet book, with a lot of heart. Love that the stories were originally written by a nine-year-old girl. Her actual stories are included in the book as well as the interpreting versions. The kids are loving it!
From the book's press release: Vail’s Tales written by Vail Johnson and Ed Payne and illustrated by Britt Sekulic is four short stories that are simple, yet rich in meaning – tales about a star, friends, mermaids and even a stool. What do they have in common? More than you might think. Vail’s Tales is the first children’s picture book pairing Vail, an elementary school student, and Payne, an Emmy Award- and Peabody Award-winning journalist. Vail died suddenly in her sleep before she could turn 10, but left pages of profound insight for someone so young. Payne's storytelling skills, along with the whimsical images of Sekulic, turn Vail's stories into memorable tales that will leave her imprint on your heart. “On August 30, 2016, the day before Vail passed away, she said that she wanted to be an author when she grew up,” recalled her mom. “Sweet girl, you already were an author, but now the world can read your stories.” “The challenge for me was to take these precious stories Vail wrote and bring them to a wider audience,” Payne said. “I never met this amazing girl, but I grew to know her through her sweet tales of imagination, friendship, possibilities and love.”
