This is the fifth in the Jan Fabel,Hamburgh Police series. They are all thrilling and gory reads which should ideally be read in order to obtain the best enjoyment. In 'The Valkyrie Song' we go back to the days of the German Democratic Republic of the 1980's and a secret plan, thought up by The Ministry of State Security (or Stasi). This involves the training of a small group of female killers, known as Valkyries, working under deep cover, and sent out to assassinate those who are selected to die,by their controller.Years later,a series of killings begin again, which have the hall-mark of the original Valkyrie murders. Principal Chief Commissar Fabel together with his team from previous books is brought in to investigate a death in the Reeperbahn district and things escalate from there on.The Hamburgh series is fast-paced and well written and plotted. The venue is different from the norm and we are given an excellent insight into the city and the surroundings too.
