This was a great story about love, loss, and guilt. The characters were wonderful and I really enjoyed not only the main characters, but also their friends. I was instantly drawn into the story from the first page and couldn’t put it down. I think I read the whole thing in just a few hours. Zhoe and Jared develop a great relationship. It’s one of those where they help each other to become better versions of themselves. Jared has had a hard upbringing and deals with a lot of guilt. He’s also that sexy and protective alpha male that we all love. Zhoe has very controlling parents and I was so happy when she finally stood up for herself. These two have to deal with a lot in their lives and they manage to find some love in the middle of all of that. I loved their friends as well. They really fill out the story nicely and make everything feel more real. The story was well laid out and I really enjoyed the dual POVs. The transitions were smooth and I found it a very easy book to read. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series.  4 out of 5 stars!

The stunningly pure beauty of this story shines like a beacon to those lost in the darkness and despair of their own soul. It will reach deep into the farthest recesses of your heart and bring with it the warmth and light of its hope and love in order to begin a slow but powerful transformation. What you see happen before your eyes is nothing less than awe-inspiring. Love when allowed is able to systematically and confidently conquer the life-numbing guilt and/or the all-consuming unworthiness that we allow to rule our lives. We need to look past these feelings of worthlessness and open ourselves up to its overwhelming passion and revel in its unquestionable acceptance. Only then can we truly learn how to live life to its fullest. Only then will we begin to understand how to love with our entire being. Only then can love truly permeate every part of our life, heart, and soul in order to shower us in the fulfillment and joy that each of us deserves. Zhoe’s entire life has been planned out by her parents, and with each day she feels her heart wither and fade a little more. What she needs is someone who sees her for the smart, beautiful, and wonderful woman she is and not what she can accomplish under their control. She needs to be set free and allowed to grow and blossom on her own not knowing what will happen next but knowing that it will be of her own making. Jared’s entire life has been one never-ending nightmare that has only gotten darker and more fearsome from one day to the next. At the darkest point in his life, he makes a decision to finally stand up and take his control of his life. Hard work and fierce determination has brought him out of that nightmare, and he will do everything in his power not to slip back into it. Just when things are looking up and his life is on a solid track with a bright future ahead of him, he get side-lined by something completely unexpected – the most amazing, beautiful, and intriguing girl he has ever met. Will Jared see that Zhoe is the missing piece of his life that he is finally ready to be put into place, or will be walk away from this major distraction and miss out on someone who will turn his life upside in a good way? Will Zhoe find the courage that only Jared can give her to stand up her to parents and start living her own life, or will she just enjoy this temporary distraction and choose to live an empty, suffocating shell of a life? I truly enjoyed each of the characters that I discovered in this amazing story. They felt so real that I could feel their pain and joy as my own, and I wanted more than anything for each of them to open their eyes to what was in front of them. It’s amazing how blind we can be to what we really need, and we need to work on broadening our narrow view of what life is all about. When love is staring us in the eye, we need to take hold of that precious miracle and cherish it with every part of ourselves. If we neglect it or turn away from it, we will learn the hard way that life is not worth living if love is not a part of it. Love is the color that brightens the path that we walk on, it is the water that sustains us from one day to another, and it is that flavor that allows us to truly enjoy things and people in our life. Be careful to always treasure, enjoy, and nurture those you love or else your world will turn dim, lifeless, and flavorless before you even realize that it is happening. This is the first book that I have read by S.J. McGran, and I have been thoroughly impressed by her outstanding talent! When she writes, her heart is the ink and her life is the paper. The emotion is powerful and so very real. You can feel your heart break as you watch Jared, Zhoe, and their friends work through their various struggles. Nothing in this story is easy, but then anything worth something is not usually easy to accomplish. It’s the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears that make the end result that much sweeter and precious. Just knowing what you could lose and how easy it would be to lose it, makes you work that much harder to keep it.

I received an arc for an honest review. This was a good book! It's up & down with your emotions, toying with your heart & mind! It starts out pretty emotional! Cole, Zhoe's brother died 5 years prior! It's affected her & her family! She came from a rich family who now just tries to control her! Zhoe's goals, however, are nothing like her dads! Jared has a connection to Zhoe through Cole but only him & his friend, Rico know about it! He blames himself! He had a horrible childhood also! Total opposite of Zhoe! When Zhoe & Jared 1st see each other, it's instant connection! They really compliment each other! Things are going good until Zhoe takes Jared to meet her parents! Her dad makes the connection & all hell breaks loose! It's horrible & devastating! My heart hurt for them 2! Jared runs! Tragedy brings them back together but can it last? Will they be able to vanquish the past & live for the future? I found it kind of slow in some parts. A lot of the sex scenes seemed to drag on. Maybe because there was A LOT of sex! All in all a good read! I can't wait to read Ang's story! I need to know her secret!(
