I recently purchased this book from B&N, and found it to be filled with everything an experienced gardener would need, and also a novice. Edward C. Smith the author, has been gardening for 30 years. He has found what works best and what may not, any every area of the gardening experience. He has always been open for new ideas, and thats one of the reasons he has grown into such an extrodinary gardener. I found that the book gives you details on everything you would ever ask and more. It describes what is best for anything that you may be planting...types of soil, seeds, where to plant, plants that grow well together, pests, windy areas, watering, etc... anything you might need to know, I am sure that you will find it in this book. filled with colored pictures to give you visuals on what the book is describing. Its easy to read and understand. A must for any garden enthusiest. In my opinion, this is the first and last book you will need in gardening.

Everyone will be blessed with great tasting vegetables if they read and follow this book. I hate weeds, and now I have adapted to the way Stephen C. Smith does his garden. I never knew there were certain vegetables that need each other, that make them taste and flourish better. I am more excited about gardening than ever before. I wish I could show some pics of my garden that I learned from this book. Any gardener needs this book to grow the best vegetables and fruits that they can.

I was glad to have received this as a Christmas gift this year. Very practical for all experience levels and garden sizes. Pracical, but not just stuff I already knew. A wonderful gift.

I checked out several books on vegetable gardening from the library recently -- "The Vegetable Gardener's Bible" is the only one I wanted to buy a copy of for myself. This book is a great gardening reference -- especially the crop by crop listing for each vegetable, which includes instructions on how to sow, good varieties and even the right time for picking. The book felt really accessible for a beginning gardener, as opposed to some of the other books I looked through at the library.
