The mystery and masks of the Carnival of Venice is engrossing. The book was more on the romantic side than I had expected, but the balance with the historical awareness of the changing times makes it a good read. It is worth reading at least once if you like decent historical fiction.

I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. I traveled to Venice and enjoyed the description of the city and the stories behind the masks. Highly recommended. I went out and bought another book by same author, the golden tulip and am already engrossed in it too.

The first half of the book is interesting, with lots of sneaking around for trysts and the romance of the school itself. However, while the second half sounds interesting, actually reading it isn't nearly so much fun. An unfair incarceration and the mystery of a woman in a mask are not handled well and end up just being annoying and whiney. If you want something with a romantic feel, try something else.

Why aren't the stupid posts of obvious idiots removed by barnes and noble after they're flagged . It's really irritation g . These cretins need to get a life. Excellent book. Very enjoyable.

ugh...chick lit disguised as historical fiction. i must confess, i could not finish this book. in fact, i couldn't get past the second chapter, which skips several years with no explanation. i think i might've enjoyed this book more when i was younger its descriptions of eighteenth century venice were well done, and might've taught me something years ago, when i would've not have minded the insipid plot. the characters did not ring true, and were just too perfect.
