Given To Me For An Honest Review Vengeance Is Mine by Harry James Krebs is a great psychological thriller. So if you enjoy reading those kind of  books this one is really for you. It is about Benjamin Tucker a bestselling true crime author. He likes to assist authorities solve crimes near his home. He is asked if he would help local police to solve some crimes involving  female victims that have been decapitated. These crimes happened in several communities around his home. He  begins his assistance to the police. In a twist that you will not see coming, the psychopathic killer becomes  fascinated by Tucker and he begins to stalk him. This book starts out a bit slow but hold on it becomes a real edge  of your seat read. It is a page turner and you will end up wanting to keep reading until the end. It has twists and turns. You will try to figure out who the killer is but you won't until the end. When you get to the end of the book, you'll be asking when does the sequel come out?? I gave this book 5 stars but it really deserves more. I highly  recommend it to all. I look forward to more from Harry James Krebs.

This is the first book I have ever read by this author and I definitely enjoyed reading it. It is a psychological murder mystery which will keep you turning the pages wondering what is going to come next. Benjamin Tucker is a bestselling true crime writer who occasionally helps the authorities in solving crimes. He is also divorced with a daughter he loves but she lives with his ex. He has recently married a VERY rich women who also has a teenage daughter who he gets along with. (the two teens do as well!)--but the money truly means nothing to him. When women begin to be found-decapitated-the police ask for his assistance. There are several characters that I fell in love with--Roberta, the feisty cook and the detective Netter-whose language was from the gutter but whose heart was in the right place, and who loved getting Benjamin "upset" And then there was the FBI profiler-Special Agent Lainie MacKenzie. I will leave you with these thoughts--why in heavens name does the killer identify with Benjamin. Who is helping the killer and why? Are they able to stop this killer? I am going to try and read the other books in this series. Although this was not the first it can definitely be read as a stand alone.

REVIEW How could anyone not fall for Ben Tucker? Sure he has his imperfections, but that's what makes Ben, Ben. And of course there's Oscar, rather low slung and they're not exactly the perfect pair but put together a funny Dachshund and the fascinating Ben and you've got the perfect team. This is a MUST read. No exaggeration, you must read this Vol. One and then wait for the next. This is a wonderful story told by Mr. Krebs with characters that are so real, you'll find yourself right there with them. Ben is a little wacky at times and then he can be a super smart reporter, it just depends on which mood he's in. Then there's Oscar and Oscar is, well rather royalty... There is Roberta, queen of the kitchen and great cook overall. She's rather a momma while at the same time she runs things. She puts fear in anyone who enters her kitchen and yet at the same time she is appreciated and everyone cares for her. Ben's second wife, beautiful and rich is CEO of one of the largest clothiers that was willed to her when her father died. She's good at her job. She loves her Ben and her daughter along with Ben's daughter. She's a multi taker and good at it. Then enters, Miss Nora, Maggie's mother whom you have to just love. She is a little bit of a drinker.. These are a few that you can love. Now we get down to the nitty gritty. Plum..Who has destroyed so many people. A Serial Murderer. He is getting nearer and nearer to Ben and his family. He brings murder and evil to Ben's front door. This is where the author gets you to turning those pages as fast as fast can get. You absolutely can't stop reading. You're wondering if any of the characters that you love in the book will be the victims of Plum. You have to find out. You have to know. When you finally reach that last page you know that you have to have more of Mr. Krebs story. You don't know if you can wait for that second book but you have to.A wonderful murder mystery full of suspense, love, lovable characters, evil characters and that one quality that makes for a good book; you the reader want more. I was given a complimentary copy of VENGEANCE IS MINE from the author, Harry James Krebs for my view of the book. No other compensation took place.

This book sets up the background for the story in two pages. This is great as so many books take chapters to accomplish that. Ben Tucker’s girlfriend, Christine, was murdered when he was 17 and it haunts him to this day. He is a true crime writer and recently married to a wealthy woman, Maggie. Ben’s daughter, Amanda Jane lives with Ben’s ex-wife. Julie is Maggie’s daughter and lives with them as does Nora, Maggie’s mom. Of course, we can’t forget Roberta, the housekeeper. Reading about her wonderful meals makes me hungry and wishing I had a Roberta in my life. And then there is the loveable Oscar, a dachshund who is a little lopsided and tends to fall into the pool. A second headless corpse has been found by the police and Ben is called in to help. It brings back the memories of Christine’s murder. This makes Ben all that much more eager to solve the crimes and makes Maggie unhappy as it brings unwanted publicity to her business. Lt. Netter is on the case. He and Ben have a good relationship so Ben is allowed to take his own pictures of the crime scenes and has access to the information the police have on the crimes. Once the suspect has a face and name, the story gets really interesting. But before I say too much and give the whole story away, I will say this book was hard to put down and I found myself reading when I should have been doing other things. The crime has been solved but there are a couple of questions that remain unanswered which lends itself well for a second book. These characters are well written and they could be people you and I might know. I hope the author plans on a series with these characters.

This one's a real page-turner!! Disclaimer: I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.  Ben is a reporter, and he's been brought in to shed light on a new case that's baffling local law enforcement. With his keen investigative knowledge and sharp eyes, they're hoping he can tell them how this killer is managing to get into women's homes, considering all the doors and windows are locked except the front one as he leaves the grisly scene behind. Aside from this, Ben has a few of his own issues: He's supposed to be writing a mystery novel, but his brain's stuck in reverse, and he doesn't feel like it would be anywhere near as good as his first book, a true-crime novel. He's also having to deal with his ex, who's determined to take half the royalties from that first book, seeing as how he worked on it while they were still together (divorces are grand, aren't they?). Even beyond all that, it turns out this current killer has more than just a passing fancy with Ben, and poor Ben gets dragged along for the ride as this story heats up. I definitely enjoyed this novel, as I always love a good mystery/thriller. The main characters were very personable, and I like how Ben tries to use his skills as a journalist to not only do what he's been asked by law enforcement, but also to try and figure out just why this killer is obsessed with him. There are certainly some shocking twists all throughout the story, and I can say that I was on the edge of my seat more than once, trying to speed-read so I could get to the next jump.  4 1/2 stars

This is not normally my type of book. VENGEANCE IS MINE was recommened to me and I'm glad it was. Mr, Krebs has written a well thought out story with a tight plot and plenty of action. A fantastic thriller that will have you checking that your doors and windows are locked! Benjamin Tucker is a bestselling true crime author. When he was a teen his life was forever changed by a violent murder. This is what pushes him to help authorites in their cases of brutal crimes. So, when decapitated females bodies start showing up, of course he jumps in to help. But this time things are different. This time the twisted murderer turns his interest on Benjamin,  This book was chilling in so many ways. Not something I wanted to read when home alone. However, it was a book I had a hard time putting down. While disturbing, the images of violence painted in this story are all the more frightening because of the possibility that they could, and I'm sure have, happen in the real world.   I can easily see this going on to become a series.

Vengeance is Mine (Benjamin Tucker, #1) by Harry James Krebs  Benjamin Tucker, a true crime author likes to help authorities solve brutal crimes. Then one(murder) happens close to home, the murders are brutal and viscous. Soon Ben is being stalked by the murderer and he and his family are in danger. A fast paced, page turning all night read. Some twists and turns that will having you reading late into the night. The plot was fantastic, an original story line. I recommend to those who love a great murder/thriller/suspense.

A wonderful thriller! This book is well written, well paced and keeps you reading way past bedtime! The characters are well developed, with human flaws and all, and although it is suspenseful, there are several moments that are interspersed with humour, and you just need to giggle in the middle. Very unusual in a suspense thriller.  I would certainly recommend this to all readers.  Although some scenes could be graphic, they are not overly described in intricate graphic details, so it is easy to read through them, whilst still feeling the horror of the situation.  I thoroughly enjoyed if and will be looking forward to any future novels by this author!

As a NC native, the intriguing tag on the front cover drew me in to an exciting world of protagonist, Benjamin Tucker, best- selling true crime author, set in small town of Holly Springs, NC, with this thrilling new series (A Benjamin Tucker Mystery (Volume 1). My relatives are Tuckers, as well, so an immediate connection and a huge fan of the TV series, Castle, which doubled the desire. (Ben can be funny like Castle, as well). VENGEANCE IS MINE does not disappoint, as you are drawn immediately into this suspenseful drama, keeping you on the edge of your seat from beginning to the end. If you are a fan of Michael Connelly, Karen Robards, Lisa Jackson, or David Baldacci, you will love this author, Harry James Krebs (he will be one to follow for years to come). This is my first read by this author, and so look forward to reading more. (loved the Raleigh-Cary connection, having lived in the area). Ben, is haunted by his traumatic past, with a drive to seek justice for victims of extreme violence. When a brutal serial killer starts a spree of attacking women, Ben jumps at the chance to dive into the investigation. However, he may get more than he bargained for when the killer targets Ben’s family. The page-turner, and edge of your seat gripping thriller will keep you reading into the night, with a well written plot and characters with a sense of humor mixed in, (Roberta - love her) action packed, with twists and turns, for an engaging highly dramatic mystery adventure. Highly recommend and looking forward to reading #2 in the Benjamin Tucker Mystery series to find out what is in store for this dynamic and complex character! A special thank you to the author, and Peak City Publishing for a complimentary copy, in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Reviewed by Lex Allen for Readers' Favorite One often reads blurbs and reviews that talk about “fast paced”, “edge of your seat suspense” or “I couldn’t put it down.”  In some cases these phrases are a bit exaggerated; in the instance of Vengeance is Mine by Harry James Krebs these phrases become understatements. This murder-mystery suspense thriller is among the very best I’ve read so far this year. I loved each and every character in this story. Not only were they interesting and perfectly designed for their roles, they were human…down to and including flaws that some reviewers have criticized. Ben has sexual thoughts about a beautiful FBI agent, even though he’s madly in love with his wife. Well, how human is that? Mr. Krebs knows how to put his characters into the story. The dialogue is as real as any I’ve ever read and fits each of the characters like a glove. In particular, the verbal exchanges between Ben Tucker and Detective John Netter are often-times funny, sometimes profane, and always spot on.  The primary plot line in Vengeance is Mine is relatively simple and straight forward for this genre. What is different and refreshing here is how the sub-plots interact with each other and the way in which the satisfying conclusion is achieved. There’s Oscar providing some funny, catch your breath moments, and Roberta, the housekeeper/nanny keeping Ben’s feet on the ground and often in the fire. You’ll also love and appreciate Maggie, the super-rich wife, who is cool, collected and often amused at Ben’s attitudes and antics. Not to be overlooked is the villain in this story, the brutal killer. He’s bad - very, very bad.

I received an ARC copy of “Vengeance is Mine” for review. Ben Tucker is an ex-investigative reporter turned author who just happens to be married to a multi-millionaire Maggie Marshak of the Marshak clothing empire. Ben has had his own trouble with the law when he was younger, his girlfriend was murdered and he blames himself. He spiraled out of control for a long time. Now, Ben is on the other side of the law and helping the Cary Police Department investigate two gruesome murders of women who have been decapitated among other things. The suspect leaves his own distinctive calling card at all the crime scenes in the way the bodies are positioned and a Bible turned to the same page and verse. A couple of weeks later the women’s heads turn up in the strangest places. Ben is asked to join the task force and his goal is to figure out how the suspect gains entry to the homes. Because in both homes no forced entry is to be seen. There is an interesting cast of characters, from Lieutenant Netter the very grumpy and opinionated lead investigator on these cases to Roberta the housekeeper who tells it like it is and is always onto Ben about something. All the characters are enjoyable and have their own distinct personalities that help the book along. Ben’s ex-wife becomes the third victim and now he is more determined than ever to find out who is committing these murders.  The suspect looks just like Ben, same color hair, height, everything.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           There are many twists and turns in the solving of who committed the murders, you will not be disappointed. There is a little romance, surprises, and intrigue all rolled into this thriller. Harry Krebs keeps you hanging until the very end and just when you think you have it all figured out, he throws in another twist. This is a very well written and researched book, Harry Krebs has done his homework on the criminal behavior aspects of the book and it was a pleasure to read. A great start for a first book in what I hope will become a successful series. No spoilers here, I am intentionally leaving out some parts of the book in the review because it would give away the guilty party.
