The Venus Fix by M. J. Rose

As one of New York's top sex therapists, Dr. Morgan Snow sees everything from the abused to the depraved. From high-profile clients with twisted obsessions to courageous survivors, the Butterfield Institute is the sanctuary to heal battered souls.

Morgan Snow's newest patient is a powerful, influential man — secretly addicted to watching Internet Web cam pornography. He's not alone in his desires. She's also working with a group of high school teenagers equally and dangerously obsessed with these real-time fantasies.

Fantasies that are all too accessible.

Then the women start dying online, right in front of their eyes.

Now it's all about murder.

THE VENUS FIX is the third book in the Dr. Morgan Snow series by M.J. Rose. The only exposure I have had to Ms. Rose is a story published last month in THRILLER (Ed. by James Patterson). I have not read either THE HALO EFFECT or THE DELILAH COMPLEX, and I had no problems following this story or learning the characters. In fact, reading THE VENUS FIX was quite a joy, and I can't wait to get my hands on the earlier works THE VENUS FIX has the wonderful twists and turns that we as readers have come to expect from great mysteries. Red herrings abound as we enter the tragic reality of internet web cam pornography and see its victims close up. Most of us probably think of this as a victimless profession, if we ever think of it at all. In THE VENUS FIX, Ms. Rose takes us into the seamy underbelly of a world most of us have never experienced. Dr. Snow treats patients addicted to their web cams and to the women behind the computer screen, from a powerful man hiding his identity to a group of high school students of both sexes trying to deal with reality outside their computers to an ex-performer who is training to become a therapist herself. One of these women dies painfully right in front of hundreds of viewers, who thankfully call the police. NYPD Detective Noah Jordain, Morgan's on-again off-again lover, is assigned to investigate the case causing Morgan to contemplate conflict of interest with both her patients and Noah. Not for the faint of heart, THE VENUS FIX is an erotic thriller that will titillate your senses and your mind. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I have read all of M.J. Rose's novels and they only get better and better. The vivid descriptions of New York, interesting characters, and originality of her novels will keep you glued until the very last page. This is not another serial killer 'disposable' thriller that you forget about five minutes after finishing it. The Venus Fix is a psychological suspense novel that addresses a serious issue - Internet porn addiction - and how it affects human sexuality and relationships at all age levels. You will feel as if you are sitting at a couch in a therapy session watching how the psychologist digs into the patient's brain to uncover the real issues behind the addiction. This novel, along with the first two books in this series (Halo Effect and The Delilah Complex), are the perfect summer escape books. I suggest that you find a comfortable armchair, grab a box of chocolates and a cup of coffee, and treat yourself to some hours of great reading.

Manhattan sex therapist psychiatrist Dr. Morgan Snow of the Butterfield Institute has had some strange clients in her practice (see THE DELILAH COMPLEX and THE HALO EFFECT), but her newest patient may be the oddest ever. He refuses to divulge his name or his occupation so they agree on calling him Bob he insists he must remain anonymous as his career and that of his wife would tank if it got out that he is addicted to Internet pornography. She also is counseling several high school students, both genders, with web porn site desires. --- Morgan¿s on and off boyfriend NYPD Detective Noah Jordain investigates two killings of Internet fantasy females in which the killer shows the homicide live via the woman¿s Web camera. Morgan thinks the murders are connected to her practice and resolutely tries to find that link while Noah tells her to stay out of it. --- The third Snow tale once again cleverly blends her sex therapy practice with a police investigation. The key to this series is Morgan who has a sort of blasé attitude about sex and murder, which frustrates her former spouse and her current lover. Though the ¿Son of Sam¿ style disturbing notes from the killer seems a literary requirement that only slows down the for the most part fast-paced action, fans of psychological suspense will appreciate this chilling thriller. --- Harriet Klausner

&#65279 The Venus Fix is the third book featuring Dr. Morgan Snow, a sychoanalytical sex therapist. In the current book she has a mysterious patient who will not tell her his name and even has someone come in and sweep her office for eavesdropping bugs before he will start a session. He admits to being addicted to internet cam porn sites, something his wife has discovered. He seems tortured, but is very secretive. Other patients she is following include a young trainee she is mentoring who was originally also performing to internet porn cameras to pay for her education, but who was wearing a special butterfly mask to hide her identity. There are several high school students, both male and female that she is counseling with issues of their own. The boys are frequent visitors to the porn sites and the girls are involved peripherally. All of a sudden one of the performers dies a rather gruesome death on camera, followed by a death and a near death a few days later, also on camera. There seems to be a connection and Dr. Snow tries to find it, while dealing with a rebellious teenager, her ex-husband and a lover who is also a homicide detective investigating the on-camera deaths. Someone is deliberately causing the deaths and the reader of this thriller is kept in doubt almost to the end of the book. All is not what it seems, which is the mark of a superb thriller-mystery. All the loose ends meet in the last chapter. A good read, but start it early in the day because you won¿t be able to put it down. J. Tom Cooper Funseeker¿s Radio Network
