Visions: A must read! There is power in this riveting debut novel, Visions, book one of The Secret Watchers series! It immediately grabs you and holds you prisoner to the end. Warning: Don't start it late at night. It may have been intended for teen audiences, but I found it extremely appealing and would recommend it for tweens through the senior set! Lauren's use of charismatic yet compassionate characters from age eleven on covers three generations and her understanding of these age groups shines through. Folks from the Pacific Northwest area will recognize many Portland Metropolitan locales, adding to the fun! I am sitting up and begging for more! I have grown attached to the captivating Owen Ryer, his mentor White Eagle and his other friends so I'm dying to see what happens next! Perhaps that was a bad choice of words? Maybe I should have said, I anxiously await Whispers, book two!!! I wonder... will Owen be able to use his amazing gift to continue to conquer evil and darkness? He has only begun his journey on the darker side of life - who will come for him next? I’m hooked!
Visions, The Secret Watchers (Book One). This is such a wonderfully fun story focusing on Owen, a young man coming to terms with the sudden discovery of his true calling, it follows his discovery of his ability and the training he undertakes to control it, this book also establishes his rocky relationship with his friends, family and his lovelife making for a thoroughly enjoyable read. Lauren has done a wonderful job with this novel – the first in a series. I sure will be buying the rest, Lauren’s descriptions of Owen’s family life are some of the best parts of this story. Owen is a likeable young man who is a great role model for young boys! I would recommend this book for any boy or girl who enjoys coming of age stories (or fun adventures – and will be encouraging my nephews to read them too). Owen’s views on family, friends, girls and of course the adults in his life are relatable and honourable. This story is also simply a fun read full of action and mystery as Owen gets in over his head while trying to control his new life and get through school! I’m glad I gave it a go!
This is one of those young adult books that is great for every age! It draws you in, make you part of the story, and keeps you there to the end. I hated when the book ended, and couldn't wait for the next in the series. Its a great story of friends, family, dedication, loyalty, and strength in character! This will be one that will be hard to put down!!!!
I was truly impressed. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this blew my socks off. I was amazed by the way the story and characters drew me in and held me captive from the first sentence until the last. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. Young Owen has difficult choices to make and he does so with courage and grace. He is someone for young folks everywhere to look up to and aspire to be.
