I was not looking to read a book about the Holocaust. When this book was recommended to me, I started gingerly, expecting to stop reading at any time. Wow, was I surprised. The story flows along with incredible historical details, yet the details are so illuminating and interesting, I forgot I was reading a true story. Each character is vivid and I found myself alternatively laughing and also feeling a tug in my heart. This book would be a fantastic read for basically anyone between someone as young as an intelligent or inquisitive teen , all the way up to the most demanding, mature reader. There are heroes galore who are both female and male. Kudos to the writer.
A truly moving and inspirational story, combined with a plot that does not let you stop reading makes this novel a must have for every history buff. As a story about such a tragic event in human history, this book explores an often ignored aspect of the Holocaust: resistance. Not only is this book useful in understanding a vital component to World War II, but also provides insight into human will and resistance during this dark time in human history.
