Colorful two-page spreads with multiple entry points dominate this interesting look at volcanoes. Primarily dealing with the science of volcanoes, the book also includes some information about significant volcanic eruptions in history, including Pompeii and Krakatau (also known as Krakatoa, though there is no explanation of the variant spelling given in the text), as well as the modern eruptions of Mount St. Helens and Mount Etna. End matter includes a page entitled "Fact File" that contains several records set by volcanoes as well as a list of recent eruptions; a glossary; and an index. Illustrations consist of full-color photographs, drawings, and maps. This book would be helpful to students undertaking research, but it is also visually attractive and readable enough to draw in students who like reading information books, whether or not they have an interest in geology or volcanoes. This book is part of the "Natural Disasters" series. 2005, Stargazer Books/Aladdin Books, Ages 7 to 11.
