About the Author

Alice Lynn's interest in the Civil War was sparked after dreaming of a beautiful girl and the two men who loved her. A common enough theme, but was it enough for a book? The sticking point was the background. When her characters proved resistant to relocating to another place and time, she agreed to do some research. The result is Volunteer for Glory.

Immerse yourself in the sweep of unrequited love and the ravages of a world at the brink of the Civil War in Alice Lynn's lush and vivid new novel. Separated by marriage and war, Rachael and Jared fight their feelings for each other even as they fight to survive--on the front lines as well as the homefront. Will Jared come back too late? Will he even come home at all?The tones and colors and ambiance of this novel completely absorbed me in Rachael and Jared's struggles. The backdrop of war was expertly woven into the fabric of the story, so much so that I felt I was in good hands all the way through. I merely curled up on the couch and enjoyed the journey. I was not well-versed in the history of the Civil War before reading this novel, but I felt I had a better sense of what it must have been like. This is no dry and dusty history book. This is living history well-told.I recommend Volunteer for Glory for anyone who adores Civil War-era historical fiction as well as those who love a good solid romance.

Alice Lynn has a unique grace about her writing. Every word is like poetry. The research she must have done for the book clearly shows in the minute details of the Civil War, along with the characters it affected. Brilliant! Recommended to every historical fiction buff out there, among others that just want a great read!

Upon reading Alice Lynn's novel "Volunteer for Glory," I felt exquisitely enveloped in the romance and history of the American Civil War. The author has succeeded in displaying the knowingness of a historian. Her vivid language gracefully carries the reader into an important time of our history, while allowing, love, passion and hope to enter our hearts. "Volunteer for Glory," is a powerful, gripping historical novel. Dr. Veronica Esagui, television producer and author.
