Overview

Vortex (Insignia Series #2) by S. J. Kincaid

S. J. Kincaid has created a fascinating dystopian world for Insignia, her futuristic science-fiction adventure series perfect for fans of Ender's Game. Earth is in the middle of WWIII, a war to determine which governments and corporations will control the resources of the solar system.

Teen Tom Raines grew up with nothing—some days without even a roof over his head. Then his exceptional gaming skills earned him a spot in the Intrasolar Forces, the country's elite military training program, and his life completely changed.

Now in Vortex, the second book in the series, Tom discovers that the Pentagonal Spire, where he and his friends are being trained as superhuman weapons, is filled with corruption. He is asked to betray his friends—the first real friends he's ever had—for the sake of his country.

Will he sacrifice his new life to do what he believes is right?

The CT jokes kind of annoyed me (I live there), but other than that it was fantastic. It was better than the first one.

Vortex is incredible! The emotion you feel while reading it is unlike any other. Tom's journey as a character is moving, and it's really like an extreme high school story. How come no one knows this author and her books?! I'm trying to spread the word to get others to read this book - both boys and girls will love it! I totally support the series and wil be a fan for forever.

Amazing book!! I loved this book from the moment that it was released I wanted it! I had to keep telling myself drop get to hyped up because if it doesn't meet my high expectations I would have hated the book! I read in less than a day! That's how good it was! And after I kept reading the last page over and over because I couldn't wait for the next one and it doesn't come out for a while!

I really enjoyed S. J. Kincaid's first book, Insignia; it was a great book, but I think Vortex is even better. Kincaid is a very skillful plotter; the twists and turns in this book just kept surprising me. The interaction of the four friends (Tom, Vik, Wyatt, and Yuri) is very realistic and often very funny. People from Connecticut beware! I especially love the Wyatt character who is so smart and so very out of it -- and she's from Connecticut. Much of this book is great fun, but Kincaid also presents a future with serious problems. Tom begins to understand just how powerful are the people/corporations who are trying to control not only him but the entire world and the extreme lengths to which they will go to do just that. This was a really great sequel! Looking forward to book 3!
