it was underwhelming for me. Just kind of boring.

I listened to this audiotape as I drove to and from work. I enjoyed the story very much and listened everyday without fail as it continually kept my interest. The narrator was perfect. I am now "Hooked on Hillerman" and will read or listen to another shortly. I am buying a Hillerman gift for a friend.

Hillerman¿s latest story has Jim Chee going to his friend and mentor Joe Leaphorn and asking his help on a murder that seems somehow connected to one Leaphorn worked on before his retirement from the Navajo Tribal Police force. I like Hillerman. He is respectful of his characters and trusts his reader to have some intelligence. He weaves a good yarn spiked with lots of interesting insights into American Indians, their religious faith and their culture. This was a book on tape read by veteran narrator George Guidall who does an outstanding job with Hillerman¿s words. Indeed, I have listened to so many Hillerman books narrated by Guidall that I believe he really is Jim Chee and just uses Guidall as a pseudonym.
