Waking the Beast (Awakening Pride Series, #1) by Lacey Thorn by Lacey Thorn

The legend of the Paka Watu...

Ever since she was a young girl, Abby Lane can't resist the allure of a catshifter tribe forced to repress their beasts. On a trip to Africa, she discovers a coveted piece of information--the name the pride leader assumed when he left his home--and she traces his lineage to his descendent.

The sleeping lion...

Utah Pearce can't keep his gaze off the woman who slips into the bar every night. Though not his usual type, she brings out the possessive instinct in him, making him battle with himself as he tries to stay away.

Abby's research never prepared her for the reality in front of her. The beast is waking, and Utah is changing in ways both exciting and terrifying. He is possessive and dominant, and when he finally claims her, neither of them will ever be the same.

At first I thought the story was going too fast and I didn't feel a connection to the characters, but I was more than hooked by the end. I read it in one sitting. Incidentally I read the second book in the series, that I bought right after I finished this one, in one sitting, as well. This series is almost exactly like L. Leigh's Breeds, so if you liked them (or LOVED them like I did) you will probalbly like these as well.

I haven't read a book in awhile that I couldn't put down. The story was well written but there are some under answered questions. Hopefully there will be more books and those questions will be answered.

I LOVE the whole series. Once you start reading, you won't put it down. I love how Abby and Tah were together. At first, reading how he was with other woman, you just want to shake him. But once he figures out what he has...well its amazing how he is with Abby. It's so funny to see how Abby doesn't take his crap. Tah is so ALPHA male and sexy. The closeness they have to their friends are awesome. They love and help each other out. Just a great read. <3

OMG found this book when someone posted it on Facebook. LOVE IT. I am a big paranormal reader and this is one i will read over again. I have never read anything from Ms. Thorn before and this will not be the last one i read. I had already bought book 2 before i was half way finished. Awsome storyline, hot alpha male, strong female , great sex scenes, and some funny moments which i enjoy in a book. Tah is a lion shifter who has no idea he is one.Abby is his mate who has figured it out before Tah.On the run from hunters ,Tah and Abby end up with there own pride of shifters and that is where we will get LOTS more books out of Ms.Thorn, I hope. Do not pass up this series it is fantastic. I wait with bated breath for book three.

HOThotHOThotHOT!!! I mean, holy smokes, Lacey sure can write a love scene, and there certainly were plenty to go around in this book! The book revolved around one of my favorites; fated mates. Abby and Tah offset each other nicely, but the fierce love they felt for each other was very endearing. I was also introduced to other characters who, I assume, either have been or will be featured in their own books (WHICH I WILL ABSOLUTELY BE READING!!!) I must admit, I was a little confused in the beginning in terms of how Abby and Tah knew each other. That information was disclosed later on, and that would be the ONLY thing I would change about the story; if that was presented in the beginning of the book, maybe some tension between Abby and Tah built up that way. But the way Lacey introduced new information at the beginning of each chapter was a very interesting idea! (No spoilers!!!) I appreciate the amount of research Lacey obviously put into learning about the African "werecat" myth featured in this book. I was not familiar with it at all, and I think she did an excellent job of explaining it clearly and completely. I especially liked how I learned of Abby's role in the myth, and how it fell into place with everything else in the story. This book opened the door nicely for LOTS more to come, and I am all too eager to get my hands on more of Lacey's books!

This erotica is fueled by an Indian legend, which provides the framework for a gripping and action-packed story. At first I had the impression this was going to be one which focused more on the plot than on the sex, but I quickly discovered this was not going to be the case. This erotica balances its intriguing story with plenty of savage sex, making a great option for those who want both plot and an arousing story.

This is a good book, with a great plot that works its way to the end. The characters are well written and work well together, can't wait to read book 2!

Although this story begins abruptly , the facts are soon filled in and the plot takes off. It was a very good beginning to a new series about shifters. I loved the folklore aspect and I can tell there are many more secrets still to be revealed.

I was impressed. This is the first time I've read a book by this author and it was very good. It's the story of a woman who has loved Lions all her life and felt drawn to them for some reason. Her parents are killed when she is a young girl, by a cousin who's just crazy. She was raised by her grandmother but lost her too. She learns of a legend telling of cat shapeshifters and she pursues the truth of the legend. She meets a professor and his daughter while in college and becomes great friends. The daughter is obsessed with wolf shapeshifers. As she goes through her life she follows the genealogical lines of the cat shapeshifers and finally decides that she has found the king of the cats, a lion. In the legend the king is called the Tau. The man she believes is the descendant of this Tau is named Utah but is called Tah, which she thinks is a great coincidence. He is a bartender in a bar and she goes every day to watch him (the story never says if she works to support herself). Tah has a military background and the men he served with eventually end up at the bar working with him. One day Tah and Abby are kidnapped and he is tortured by Harlan the cousin who killed her parents. Tah eventually breaks free and kills one man who is trying to drag Abby off. The other men escape. Abby and Tah run as far as they can and land in a motel along the road. Tah calls his friends (Logan and Reno) to come to them and help him protect Abby. They head to a huge cabin in the woods per the professor's instructions so they can get help for Tah who is struggling against the lion within. Harlan and his bad friends eventually catch up to them and it's quite the struggle. I should mention that this is also a very erotic book with lots of sex scenes between Tah and Abby. The story is also very interesting in the way the author portrays the evolution of the lion in Tah. As with all paranormal stories the author puts her own unique twist on the paranormal aspects. It was very good and hard to put down. Definitely a winner. .
