Walking Among the Shadows: Awakening by Navi' Robins

EMBRACE
THE DARKNESS...Aiden Storm has been living in the shadows and feels there is only so much life has to offer someone like him, until the most beautiful girl he's ever seen arrives at Deerfield High.

Jasmine is everything Aiden could possibly want in a girlfriend, but after a chance encounter on the first day of his sophomore year he begins to feel his sanity and emotional control slipping into a dark fantasy of violence, horror, and murder.

Confiding in his best friend only complicates things as Tony questions Aiden's sanity and fears that Aiden will one day act on his violent visions, leading him to become Deerfield's first serial killer. The darkness growing inside of Aiden starts to change him, and every day the old Aiden disappears while the new aggressive and dangerous Aiden begins to take control and jeopardize everything and everyone important in his life.

Things take a turn for the worse on his seventeenth birthday when he blacks out and wakes up to the aftermath of a rival team member's murder and the report of an intruder in Jasmine's home on the same night. Unable to recall what happened, Aiden becomes the prime suspect. With Tony knowing his dark secret and an FBI agent hot on his trail, Aiden has to figure out how to keep Tony from exposing him while staying one step ahead of the federal agent assigned to the case. He must choose to embrace or expose the darkness.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I recieved this awesome little treasure to review. There is a lot of action in this and suspence!! I was flipping through it so fast just trying to figure out what was coming next.Your going to feel a lot of different emotions throughout the whole book!!Very pleasantly pleased with this amazing book! Ohhhh, and the ending!! I was like....Oh NO!!! Navi did not just end it like that!!!! AHHHHH.... I can't wait for more!! Okay, now for a little about the story. Aiden Storm,a typical high school teen who's whole world is about to change in the blink of an eye.Aiden's life has been normal.... until that beauitul new girl walks into the lunch room. Jasmine, the new girl. She's beautiful beyond words. All the guys are in awe of her and all the girls loth her.The second she walks into the lunch room and lays eyes on Aiden Storm, things get very sticky. And quickly!! All Aiden can feel and think of when Jasmine is near him is hate, anger and rage. All he wants to do is end her life for her. He doesn't understand where these feelings are coming from.He has to stay away from her at all costs!! When murders accrue and Aiden keeps blacking out,the FBI are on his heels. All fingers are pointing to Aiden.Aiden can't be sure if he really did the murdering or not. He can't trust his feelings anymore, all the rage he is feeling, waking up in Jasmine's bedroom standing over her,the feeling of wanting to kill her....Leads to one messed up mind. I really enjoyed the characters in this story, they were all very "Real To Life". You find yourself rooting for all the wrong people, and saying "What the heck?".... Don't judge a book by it's cover..Yeah, that saying should be on the front of this one!I loved it!! Can't wait for more from Navi Robins!

A FANTASTIC AND COMPELLING READ!!! First I want to say that this is my first go at a self published author. Prior to this book I steered clear of any self published books due to the substandard products that are flooding the market everyday. This is going to be a long review because there is allot to cover: I typically don't read Young Adult fiction which is what this novel can be categorized as, I am more of a general fiction, espionage, detective thriller type of guy but back in April while on Facebook I got a notification concerning a contest that the author was having to review the first 4 chapters of this novel. The description of the book intrigued me so I decided to enter into the contest. I didn't win but after reading the reviews of the winners I decided to take a gamble on Navi' Robins and purchased my first indie author novel. THE GAMBLE PAID OFF BIG TIME!! I'm not an author just a dedicated reader and I have read dozens of books from some of the best and I have to say the writing style of Robins made this novel a breeze and pleasure to read. Actually easier to read than some of the big names out there. It was like watching a movie instead of actually reading a book. The story is narrated in first person by the main character Aiden Storm who's a teenager thrust in a very serious and crazy situation. The voice of the character was almost flawless and as the story progressed you felt like you were actually Aiden watching the world through his eyes. I felt completely connected to Aiden as I watched him go through so many emotional and physical transformations. The story and the attitude and behavior of Aiden and the other characters was believable as I have two teenagers in my home and I found myself laughing out loud as I related to each characters responses to certain situations. I will warn you now, there are some major twists in this tale and you just when you think you know what's going to happen next Robins spins you around and points you in a totally different but very believable direction. Many of the contest winners claimed the same thing and after reading the entire book I have to agree 100%. I won't give away any major plot twists but the concept and idea is very fresh and not the usual vampire, werewolve, and zombie love story that saturate the YA genre. My teenagers are big fans of YA fiction so I have a good sense of what's out there and it didn't interest me until now. Is this novel perfect? Absolutely not, no book ever is, my only gripe is the first chapter is pretty long but still very interesting. Can the author improve as a writer. Yes! But this being his first novel shows that this author is very talented and he takes great pride in his work and product. The interior was also professional with each chapter having it's own name that really added humor and depth to the reading experience. There is a poem at the beginning of the book that when I initially read it I thought, "what a great poem", but after reading the entire story that poem has so much more meaning to it which made it even greater and added emotional depth to the story. I would suggest after reading the book in its entirety that you read that poem again. You'll get what I'm saying. I still will remain very sceptical regarding self published authors but Navi' Robins has a fan for life with me! I really hope he's working on the next volume because the cliff hanger at the end leaves me wanting more.
