Tucker Wayne’s past and his present collide when a former army colleague comes to him for help. She’s on the run from brutal assassins hunting her and her son. To keep them safe, Tucker must discover who killed a brilliant young idealist—a crime that leads back to the most powerful figures in the U.S. government.

From the haunted ruins of a plantation in the deep South to the beachheads of a savage civil war in Trinidad, Tucker and Kane must discover the truth behind a mystery that leads back to World War II, to a true event that is even now changing the world . . . and will redefine what it means to be human.

With no one to trust, they will be forced to break the law, expose national secrets, and risk everything to stop a madman determined to control the future of modern warfare for his own diabolical ends. But can Tucker and Kane withstand a force so indomitable that it threatens our very future?

After the extra long wait for this novel to be published, I expected a more entertaining read. While I did enjoy it,I felt it was unnecessarily long-winded and, in my opinion, it just doesn't have the flavor of a Rollins book.

War Hawk is the second book in the Tucker Wayne series, which is a spinoff from The Sigma Series books. The first book for Tucker Wayne is Kill Switch. Sandstorm is the first Sigma series story. One could probably read this book without reading the first one, but I would suggest reading in order. I love that this book has a dog as one of the main characters and not only that, but every so often you get a glimpse of how his canine minds work, which I like. This installment gives the reader a glimpse into Tucker’s past. As usual, Lames Rollins doesn’t fail when it comes to weaving a good yarn that balances history, science, and fiction in such a way that it all seems possible. As usual a well-designed coaster ride, from start to finish. Beautifully designed characters in a world you never mind revisiting. Worth reading.

War Hawk by James Rollins & Grant Blackwood deals with a lot of issues that get me so involved in the story, at times I forget it is fiction. This bone chilling, action packed suspense novel had my blood boiling, my head feeling like it would explode and my emotions running AMOK. Tucker is on the run from his past, she is on the run from the present and Kane is along for the ride. Tucker has an ability to, not only read his dog, but people too. With his skills, knowledge and network of people, he embarks on his journey to help Jane. I love when there’s a critter in the story, and Tucker’s faithful companion, Kane, is very special indeed. Their ability to act as one is remarkable and real. Tucker is a bit damaged from his time in Afghanistan…he suffers from PTSD and he struggles to come to terms with his past. I agree that pizza and beer is always a motivation to live. Kane is like the energizer bunny…he takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’. I could picture him, crawling, belly scraping on the ground, head low, paw by paw…scouting. On the verge of death…more than once…James Rollins and Grant Blackwood kept my heart in my throat, not only for Kane and Tucker, but for the entire team that is willing to sacrifice their life for US. Karl Webster is a fabulous villain who won’t go down. “Perception is everything.” Warfare is changing and the front line is technological. Electronic warfare, cyber attacks, psychological operations… The age of technology has reached epic proportions in its ability to shape our future. Too many people believe everything they see on hear on TV, radio, and online, regardless of the misdirection and distraction tactics used by those who wish to hide the truth. Could this really happen? Has it already? As I read, all my fears are confirmed. I can’t help but believe there is no way or will be no way to prevent others from stealing information, affecting our presidential election and possibly causing an economic collapse. If I think about it too long, I am left with a feeling of helplessness, seeing no way to protect ourselves. So we must be vigilant and keep on fighting the good fight, with help from those like Tucker and Kane. Hand to paw, Tucker and Kane face death with a determination to stop THEM. Makes me so angry, the sacrifices they have made and someone, for their own greedy purposes, wants them dead. This unpudownable, terrifying, realistic thriller pits the warriors against those who wish to rule, and I will be with them til the end! I voluntarily reviewed War Hawk by James Rollins and Grant Blackwood.

I first came across Army Ranger Tucker Wayne and his canine partner, Kane, in another series by Rollins. I was thrilled to read the first book in this new series featuring these two formidable characters. It’s fascinating to read how Tucker and Kane work together like a well oiled machine, at times using signals and intuition, anticipating each others next moves. This was a grueling read for me. Tucker and Kane have been in some tight situations before, but when an old colleague shows up on their doorstep, asking for help, it’s a fast moving thriller right up til the end. So many times I thought it couldn’t get worse and had to bite my tongue when it did. And many times I feared the worst and hoped for the best as so many good people, and mans best friend, put their lives on the line for life and liberty. While keeping the suspense at the maximum, there’s something else these two authors do very well too. They give you some of the worst of the worst characters and actually have you empathizing with some of them. There were one or two that I hoped would redeem themselves. Tucker and Kane are my heroes and I can’t wait to navigate through more life and death situations with them in the future.

Tucker Wayne is a retired Army Ranger. Tucker is surprised when Jane Sabstello meets him at his motel room with her son. Jane knows she is a target since several others she knows have been killed. Tucker looks into this and learns that drones are becoming more advanced. They are being programmed to adapt to different situations. It seems someone has big plans and is going to start using these AI drones to help him along. It’s up to Tucker and Kane to stop him. When I think of drones, I think of the ones that most people have that just buzz around their neighbors or different areas around them. I tend to forget the military aspect. I loved the concept of how advanced they are in this story. It gives me the shivers thinking that such things could be happening now. Tucker is a great character. He has his own issues but thankfully he has Kane to help him out. Kane is my favorite character for obvious reasons. I loved reading about both of them working together during fights and such. I’ve always wanted a dog like Kane. I love James Rollins writing and can’t believe that I had missed this series. I have not read the first book, The Kill Switch, but didn’t feel like I was really missing anything by jumping right into War Hawk. I will definitely be adding The Kill Switch to my shelves and I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I received War Hawk from Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours for free. This has not influenced my opinion of this book.

I know dogs are used extensively in military and police units, but I don’t know much about how those partnerships work. I was intrigued when I read the synopsis for War Hawk and saw an opportunity to learn more about these unique partnerships between handlers and their dogs. The bonus here is a fantastic adventure by James Rollins and Grant Blackwood. Tucker and Kane must traverse the world, working against time to stop media mogul Pruitt Kellerman from sparking a war for personal gain. Non-stop action through swampland in the South, the islands of the Caribbean and the mountains of eastern Europe provide the opportunity for unique fight scenes that will keep you turning the pages. I loved the interaction between all of the characters, but especially enjoyed how Kane and Tucker work together seamlessly and trust in each other without reservation. War Hawk is Book 2 of the Tucker Wayne series, but is easy to follow if you haven’t read this series from the beginning. As soon as I finished it, I downloaded the Sigma Force book, Blood Line, where Tucker and Kane are first introduced – I can’t wait to go back and read their story from the very beginning. When you finish War Hawk, keep reading for the Author’s Notes at the end. Interesting information is included, and reading recommendations made, to learn more about war dogs, PTSD and the use of drones in modern warfare.
