5 stars!!  Wonderful description on every page - from the idyllic Tennessee farms to the wartorn battlefields.  Mr. Bargatze has written an obviously thoroughly researched and vivid account of the monumental effects of the Civil War on a young boy, his family, town, and country.  This book gave me a whole new perspective about this sad time in our country's history, especially after experiencing it through the eyes of young Thomas.  Looking forward to seeing how the scale is tipped in each of the next 9 parts of this series.  Warfield is a must read for anyone who enjoys historical fiction, or anyone who enjoys a great book!

Bravo, Mr. Bargatze! WARFIELD is a must read for anyone who has ever wondered what life was like in our nation during the Civil War era. With elegant prose, Mr. Bargatze compellingly depicts this coming of age story with accuracy and heart. The authenticity of the dialogue, the customs, and the culture spring from the author's credible knowledge of the period, while the richness and depth of characters reveal Mr. Bargatze's insight and sensitivity to the human condition. As the reader follows young Thomas and his family through their fictional journey of love, loss, and courage, the universal complexities of life ring true amid the historically documented events of the Civil War. WARFIELD remains a timeless story with history lessons and lessons of life. A saga worthy of the big screen!

the auther of this book was real creative with his story. He brought out the feelings of the characters in a real live story of a war about to begin and the ways people would have to change there lives in how they functioned in there years. there is a lot going on with a little bit of everything all topics were picked well with history music and many other things that go with every day life. I give GARY BARGATZE A FIVE FOR THE BRILLIANT WAY HE WROTE THIS BOOK AND MORE TO COME. I'm sure you will enjoy this book when you get to read it
