About the Author

Elan Wasabara prides himself on being a true New Yorker. Born and raised in this great city, he’s seen the best and the worst it has to offer. Despite the difficult times he’s been through in the Big Apple, he feels New York will always be his home. Raised in public housing with few opportunities, Elan was trapped in a world of limited options—many of which were risky or even illegal. It was only a matter of time before he ran into trouble with the law. One day, his life of living on the edge caught up with him and he got into big trouble.

Elan began writing his memoirs several years ago to document the events of his life. One of the first things he learned in his most challenging moments was that socio-economic conditions and lack of opportunities were the main reasons most people become involved in criminal activities. Realizing he wasn’t alone in his hardships and there are many others who’ve gone through similar travails, he decided to publish his memoirs as Wasabara Brothers in Arms. His hope is that if his book can impact just one person, it will impact an entire family and possibly change the course of a generation.

Once he got his life together, Elan attended classes in schools and universities and began independent studies in information technology and education. He taught technology at several colleges and at private corporations, and eventually stepped out of the classroom to begin working as a senior consultant in the IT field at a number of prestigious companies. Elan earned a series of engineering certifications and has credentials issued by a number of Fortune 100 companies. He owned a successful small business consulting firm for 10 years.

In his spare time, Elan participates in several support groups for families who are casualties of the prison system, and he also donates to animal rescue organizations. Known in his community as a person who always lends a helping hand, Elan today spends the majority of his time with his wife, Pamela, and his faithful companion, Guapo.
