Overview

“Susan Koefod’s fine debut novelWashed Upis anything but. It’s the beginning of what promises to be a bold new voice in the crime genre. Three strong elements make it a clear winner: a couple of wonderfully flawed protagonists; a lot of sizzling sexual tension; and a plot with the kind of suspense and pacing that readers absolutely love. Hungry for a good read? This book satisfies!” —William Kent Krueger, Minnesota Book Award winning author of Thunder Bay

The town seems a little seedy, a little gritty, like, it's past its prime, like the detective. The girl is attractive, well organized, very structured, she doesn't like mistakes. So what's the attraction? They're tangled up in a case, he's the detective, she's the social worker. She's methodical, smart, reliable, on time, he has experience, contacts and instincts. She likes to dress up, she likes to plan. He wakes up in pick-ups, wanting to know, what he did the night before. Together they're a team, whether they like it or not. But, I kinda think they like it. I liked it, ...a lot.

Koefod's debut mystery is a great read! The plot flows along with the same drive and intensity as the mighty Mississippi that plays such a central role. It's filled with quirky, memorable characters that stay with you long after you've read the last sentence. The chemistry between messy Detective Arvo Thorson and perfectionist Christine Ivory is white hot. Abatha Cox is a young girl with an old soul whose closest friend is mother nature. The book is littered with gorgeous passages that provide insight into both the natural world and the human condition. Don't miss out on this great read. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

This is a real page-turner, great for book clubs (has questions at the end), and a great start to a series. Can't wait for the next one.
