About the Author

This is coauthor Arthur Sommers's sixth book to be published by Arcadia. His previous books were about Placer County, California. He moved from Sacramento to Hillsboro in 2016 and started volunteering at the Washington County Museum in 2017. He saw the over 30,000 images in the museum's collection and decided to attempt a book on Washington County. Coauthor Karen Kearns is also a volunteer at the Washington County Museum. She began working in the museum's research library several years ago after taking a class in archaeology at a local college. She has a bachelor of arts degree in science and worked as a nuclear medicine technologist. Karen moved from Chicago with her husband and two sons to Washington County in 1999. Her whole family enjoys learning about history.
