"First, the Bots destroyed my city. They were meant to serve us, but they turned and thousands died by their hands. Then the Carbons arrived and we were soon left with only a few hundred humans. Now, after ten years of war, I'm one of the few survivors left. I'm a Watcher, and I promise I will not fail."
Sawyer Russo has sworn to protect her fellow humans, and as a Watcher, she's done just that. But the Bots and Carbons that overran her city are evolving, and are picking off her comrades one by one.
Embarking on a desperate mission to save humanity from extinction, Sawyer discovers that the line between friend and foe is no longer easily drawn when one of her own betrays them. Faced with a choice between fulfilling the vow she swore as a Watcher, and avenging those who have fallen, she must ultimately decide who can be saved ... and who can't.

“The Stars are the key. They will keep you safe.” Sawyer Russo, one of the youngest Watchers feels she has to prove she can protect humanity. The question is, can she protect herself? Orphaned at an early age in a post World War III world, she and the other Watchers keep the humans safe from the Bots and the Carbons. It used to be easy to find and stop a Carbon, but they are evolving and adapting and it’s getting dangerous to assume anything. And then, the Watchers are infiltrated by someone. Friend,Foe, WTF? And the story takes twists you can never imagine. Who is who and why is it happening? I won The Watcher trilogy from the author in a giveaway, but I had already downloaded the entire series as ebooks before then. My response to this, the first book is that I never ever saw what was coming and I spent too many nights reading until my eyes crossed to find out. This is un-putdown-able writing and I cannot wait to start Book 2. Highly recommended 5/5
After World War III, the few surviving humans live in a couple bases. The world as we know it is gone and most humans have been destroyed by the Bots and Carbons. Sawyer is part of a small group that has been trained to kill the Bots and Carbons. She lives in a secret location with a couple other Watchers. But the Bots and Carbons have evolved and are on the hunt for the watchers. When the secret location is attacked it is clear that there must be a traitor in their midst. But who could it be and can Sawyer make the tough decision to save the group of Watchers. Dystopian stories are one of my favorite genera so I couldn’t wait to get into this book. This is a beautifully created world that is in the deepest pits of despair. Things are going to hell and it looks like this is going to happen sooner than later. Sawyer is a strong female character that is out hunting the Bots and Carbons. She is very protective of her little family of watchers. She comes across as cold as ice but when you get to understand her you understand why. I love how you learn about each person in her group and come to love them like her. So you question Kenzie’s arrival but I came to enjoy the light romance between him and Sawyer. I loved this book. It is well written, draws you in, has lots twists and turns that keep you guessing, and will leave you rushing to get the next book in the series, Carbon. I received this book from iRead Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.
Set in a dismal future, this fast-paced adventure grabs from the very first page and doesn't let go. As one of the last humans left on Earth, Sawyer's life has become a game of pure survival. As a Watcher, it's her job to destroy all Bots and Carbons--the machines which have managed to nearly drive humanity into extinction. When a rescue mission enables a traitor to gain access to the hide-out, this last base of survivors is threatened to be wiped out. . .unless Sawyer makes the right decisions. This is a book, which is sure to grab the interest of Divergent fans. Future Earth is a dark place, one whose dangers are clear on every page. The urban setting holds enough familiar details to make it easy to picture, while allowing the futuristic idea of Bots and Carbons to raise the tension in every scene. The stakes are high, the air tense and the adventures flows quick and fast. In other words, this is not a book that invites boredom for even a moment or two. About half-way through, the plot takes a sudden turn with several huge twists, which drop in rather suddenly. The events take the plot in a wonderful direction, and add lovely layers and tense possibilities. A little more build-up to this moment was missing. . .something which happened a few times during the story as well. Still, there's so much going on that it's a packed read the whole way through. Sawyer is tough and packs ton of girl power. She knows how to swallow back emotion and get the job done. Although this makes her hard to grasp at first, as the tale progresses, her inner warmth peers out and, by the end, she's hard not to like. The added romance, although not always smooth, gives the story the necessary softness to touch the heart. There are emotional moments which dig at the soul, but this read keeps the action tight like a full-speed, roller coaster ride. The other characters add interesting layers, but the depth itself rests mostly on Sawyer and her hero. The author has created an intriguing world and I can't wait to see where this series goes next. I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed the read so much that I wanted to leave my honest thoughts.
