Watching by Calle J. Brookes

People who preyed on those weaker and more defenseless than themselves deserved whatever punishment was thrown at them.

That thought drove Dr. Georgia Dennis in every decision she made, personal and professional. A profiler with the Complex Crimes Unit of the FBI, she was tired of being second-guessed by her boss Michael “Hell” Hellbrook.

Once they caught the sociopath responsible for stoning teenaged girls, she was gone from Hellbrook’s team faster than the ink could dry on the transfer papers.

Georgia and Hellbrook are hot on the trail of a sadistic killer targeting women and girls with brown hair and brown eyes—women with a striking resemblance to Georgia.

Hellbrook will do anything to protect his team, even the woman he never wanted on it in the first place. By keeping her at his side, he grows closer to her until the flame between them erupts and consumes them both.

As they get deeper involved with the case and with each other, they do not realize someone else is watching, someone whose descent into madness threatens everyone around them.

Is this watcher their killer, or someone much closer?

About the Author

Who is Calle Jaye Brookes? Calle Jay is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”). Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish? In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them! Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too. She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires. She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too. They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.

Excellent plot and characters. Too much emphasis on the romance and sexual relationship. Story is strong enough without it. Relationship between Hellbrook and Georgia is not believable. Neither would ever act that way and jeopardize their careers. Especially Hell. How can he have the respect of his men when he is acting like a horny teenager in front of them with a subordinare? Their higher-ups would have sent them to different assignments and different locations. Storyline is solid. No need to make it trite with excssive sex.

The story is interesting, however it is disturbing to read that the women are very small and the men are "giants". I see this in other books and it is creepy.

297 pages, paid $2.99. I had never read any thing by Callie Brook before and was very interested in trying her. I was not disappointed. The book was a very nice length and the editing, grammer and punctuation were well done. There was some sex, no cursing, or religion, at least six serial murders and quite a bit of other violence, one part of the book confused me, the victim was said to be male, but it was constantly refered to as female. I know dead is dead, but the killer only went after females, yet here was a male victim..... Transgender perhaps? There are several complaints I have about this book, one is all the perfect women, all tiny, ultra petite, gorgeous, perfectly formed, with alluring voices, eyes and demeaner, they must be protected and cherished, by all men and all are always getting hurt or victimized in some way. Another is EVERYONE has lost their significent other(s) and or parents to violence or terrible accidental deaths. Whodunit was very interesting and whydunit not so much, howdunit was unique, which was nice. There is an excerpt af rhe next book in this series at the conclusion. If the women had been less Stafford Wives and more human and the characters less divas and casuality prone, this would have been a five star book. For chicks and roosters, ages 18 and up, due to sex and violence. Genre: police mystery. AD

## I definitely enjoyed the crime drama aspect of this book. Georgia was a fantastic character. I loved her strength, her smarts, and her loyalty to her friends. The romance was mostly in the background, but fun nonetheless. Once again I had to deduct a star because the names were confusing. There were a lot of characters. A lot. So using their last names for the most part was fine since they were agents. However, the author kept switching between first and last names. Very difficult to follow. One character's name was Bryan and one was Byrum. Too close for comfort. There are so many names to choose from. Other than that, this was a very fine read.

I loved every minute of it! The characters were awesome and I loved the epilogue. At first I was confused as to what was going on in a few of the more recent chapters of the book but after I kept going I finally started catching on and even through the confusion I couldn’t stop reading. It kept me hooked the entire time. Great read for certain!

Suspenseful What a wonderful beginning to a series. A profile unit is in South Dakota looking for a serial killer. Young girls are being stoned to death and being left in quarries. Hellman leads the team, Georg is one of the agent's. Between trying to figure out who did, the start to have feelings for each other. Wonderful story. Look forward to reading more in the series.

My favorite stories are of strong women of mind & spirit capable of handling “anything and everything!” This book had just what I enjoyed a female FBI profiler (a woman trained to deal with the criminals) who is also a very protective single mother of a 4 year old son lending to the heroine’s love & compassionate side of her character. A Great Read!

Characters and story are very well developed. The relationship between the main characters was not believable... agents would never have behaved in that manner in front of other agents and underlings and it simply would not have been tolerated by the FBI hierarchy. That being said it was still a great book and I will get more from this author

Very good story. I enjoyed the different characters and their varied personalities. I liked learning what made them tick. There were some grammatical errors and some confusing sentences as well as some that didn't make sense. I also found some of the story confusing, as if I'd skipped a paragraph, or a page. It was worth my time to read and I am glad I did. Thank you for this free book. I have enjoyed Callie Brooks stories thus far.
