About the Author

Hi there! I’m Jacquelyn Smith, an independent fantasy author living on the outskirts of Toronto, Canada. I write fast-paced, epic fantasy adventures. I first read The Lord of the Rings when I was around 11 years old, and was instantly hooked. I loved how real Middle Earth felt with all of Tolkien’s maps, languages, and history. The unlikely bromance between Legolas and Gimli also appealed to me as a fun contrast to the seriousness of the quest to overthrow Sauron. As I got older (after re-reading LOTR and other epic fantasies countless times), I began watching Xena: Warrior Princess. I took a lot of flak for it at the time, but I just couldn’t get enough of the action, battle scenes, quirky humor, and snarky dialogue. Somehow, my favorite aspects of these two main influences have mashed together to become the signature of the majority of my work: fast-paced fantasy with lots of battle scenes, oddball humor, and smart-mouthed characters who can’t seem to stay out of trouble as they take on epic quests. Unlike a lot of epic fantasy, I keep my description fairly tight and sparse for the most part, focusing mainly on action and dialogue. So if you’re looking for a five-page description of a tree, feast, etc., I’m probably not the right author for you. ;) If any of this sounds appealing, I recommend checking out my World of Lasniniar series, which is ongoing, and features a long list of both novels and shorter adventures to choose from. My stand-alone fantasy short stories The Unclean and The God’s Eye are back-to-back winners in the annual fiction contest held by Writers' Journal, and were both published in the July/August issues of the magazine. If you happen to be a fan of thrillers featuring a heroine who kicks ass, you can also check out my Kira Brightwell series, written under the name Kat Irwin. Find out more at: www.WaywardScribe.com
