War surrounds him, yet for vampire Kaden Gaspard, there is no greater battle than the one his mind has waged against his heart. He knows he should stay away from her. Reysa. The half-breed vampire warrior who had risked her life to prove his innocence for the seven murders for which he was accused, but had not committed. This stubbornly loyal woman who dedicated her life to her family of misfits - immortals shunned and abandoned by their clans for their impurity of blood and genetic mutations. This courageous and valiant African warrior who Kaden fears could never love the monster that he is destined to be.
As Kaden and Reysa struggle to accept the undeniable bond between them, they must come together to stop the emerging terror that threatens to destroy all immortals. The lesser immortals – witches, sages, shifters, demons, hybrids, charmers and foreseers – have declared war against the pureblood vampires and lycans who have used their purity of blood and greater strength to enslave the weaker races. No immortal is safe. This is a fight for freedom and a fight against genocide. There can be no true victor as death looms for them all.

We Shall Rise is a good book that I enjoyed reading. Kaden is a full breed vampire who has lived his entire life destroying the lives of those around him. It's not until he meets his mate Reysa that things start to take a turn for the better. Reysa is a half breed. She is part vampire and part Siren. She has created a life with her best friend Christian, their daughter Tatiania and other "misfits", immortals who don't fit in. Reysa is happy and content with the life she has built. But once she sees Kaden and sings a song to him things change between them. They both know they are not going to be able to continue to fight the romantic tension between them for much longer. Kaden wants Reysa and while she feels the same way she is a bit uncertain because of the kind of person he is. Will Reysa finally be the one who is able to get Kaden to see the good in him and not just all the bad? Reysa and her friends also need to focus their attention on the group that has kidnapped their friend Yasmine. It's also the group who is out to start a war between the full breed and the half breed immortals. The story was good and I enjoyed the characters. There is romance, action and laughable moments. There are some steamy romantic scenes that for me were a bit too steamy. That said, I have enjoyed these first two books and hope to read the last book to see how everything ends.
