Welcome to the beautiful Sinclair family.

No one is a criminal.

No one is an addict.

No one is a failure.

The Sinclairs are athletic, tall, and handsome. We are old-money Democrats. Our smiles are wide, our chins square, and our tennis serves aggressive.

It doesn't matter if divorce shreds the muscles of our hearts so that they will hardly beat without a struggle. It doesn't matter if trust-fund money is running out; if credit card bills go unpaid on the kitchen counter. It doesn't matter if there's a cluster of pill bottles on the bedside table.

It doesn't matter if one of us is desperately, desperately in love.

So much

in love

that equally desperate measures

must be taken.

We are Sinclairs.

No one is needy.

No one is wrong.

We live, at least in the summertime, on a private island off the coast of Massachusetts.

Perhaps that is all you need to know.

At first I didn't know what to expect. Imagined so many different things except what actually was going on. I felt like throwing the book across the room because it was so unexpected. Literally.... A good read one that will leave you not knowing "how could of I not realized what really was going on". Recommend it , really good just don't throw it across the room.

Modern novel with old style white bread money. Lots to talk about. Sometimes hard vascillating between summer 15 and summer 17. Loved the dialogue between the kids. Do recommend.

When I first started this book I honestly didn’t know if I was gonna like it or not. Since I heard it was either a hit or miss for most readers. When Cadence suffers memory loss after an accident when she was 15, the novel enters around Cadence trying to discover what happened leading up to her accident, and trying to return to her old life. But, she’s plagued with migraines that dull to an ache on her best days, and leaver her bed ridden on her worst. Cadence , oh my heart bled for her. With her mind always aching, she struggles so much with trying to piece together the events that happened before her memory loss on her 15th summer. Gat, the sweet indian boy that never truly belonged had a war plaguing his thoughts. I routed for him and Cadence during the whole novel. I hoped for nothing but good things for these two as they were so innocent and pure. Johnny and Mirren were great side characters but I do wish I could have gotten to know them more. The littles drove me insane, as did the sisters, destroying their family over money. Greedy bitches. The mystery captivated me and I found myself turning page after page, always wanting to find out more. And for once, I was utterly shocked by the ending! I wouldn’t have guessed the outcome in a million years. It was refreshing! It’s very hard for a book to hide it’s plot twists from me, as I always guess them before they happen! But not this time my peeps! And I am still in awe by the plot twists and secrets throughout this book! I give We Were Liars 3 Stars for the unpredictable ending and for Cadence and Gat

The one word that I can use to describe this book is haunting. How haunting? Let's just say I read this book more than a year ago and I still think about it. When I see it on a shelf at the book store, I still reach out to pick it up and hold it. I read this book more than a year ago and after I read it, I passed it to my co-worker who was an avid reader. The day she finished it she was sitting at her desk across from me and said "Oh my God!" and I turned to look at her and she had the book in her hand and tears in her eyes and said "Oh my God, I just finished. How could you do this to me?" It made my co-worker cry. That's how good this book is. That's how haunting it is. Don't finish it at work, unless you don't mind crying in front of co-workers. Yes, its that good.
