Their hearts intent on a private ceremony, Mark and Donna are days away from saying I do. But the discreet location they’ve chosen for the wedding of the decade might not be as private as they initially believed.
The picturesque inn offers more than a quaint backdrop. The accommodations include a covey of eager wedding planners clamoring for the opportunity to assist. Complicating matters even further, meddling family members, nosy guests, and a swarm of Civil War re-enactors are also vying for their attention.
When one of the overzealous wedding planners winds up dead, the soon-to-be-wed duo end up with far more on their plate than a walk down the aisle. They must catch a killer before they can tie the knot.

About the Author
M. K. Scott is the husband and wife writing team behind the cozy mystery series. Morgan K Wyatt is the general wordsmith, while her husband, Scott, is the grammar hammer and physics specialist. He uses his engineering skills to explain how fast a body falls when pushed over a cliff and various other felonious activities. The Internet and experts in the field provide forensic information, while the recipes and B and B details require a more hands on approach. The couple’s dog, Chance, is the inspiration behind Jasper, Donna’s dog. Murder Mansion is the first book in The Painted Lady Inn Mysteries. Overall, it is a fun series to create and read.

Reviewed by Susan Sewell for Readers' Favorite A wedding planner is found upended in the bride's cake, and it seems as if someone may have a grudge against those who prepare the marriage ceremony in the entertaining sleuth mystery novel, Weddings Can Be Murder (The Painted Lady Inn Mysteries) by MK Scott. Donna Tollhouse is the owner and proprietor of the Painted Lady Inn, located in a small North Carolina coastal town. Since Donna opened her inn, she has had the bad luck of having murder victims spontaneously using her property for their untimely deaths. However, a little good has come along with the bad. Donna has discovered she is good at solving mysteries and likes working with Mark, the city's homicide detective. After a murderous Caribbean cruise, Donna and Mark are going to bite the bullet and tie the knot. Donna wants a simple wedding, but her mother, Cecilia, and sister-in-law, Maria, have different ideas and want to hire a wedding planner. However, things go awry when the area's wedding planners are dying in bizarre accidents. Not only that, Donna's inn is being invaded by rebel soldiers, runaway senior citizens, and elevator contractors that are tearing holes in her wall and sleeping in her yard. Donna is having trouble finding time to investigate the murder, much less plan a wedding. With the festivities coordinators dropping like flies, can Donna have the wedding of her dreams and still catch a killer? Weddings Can Be Murder (The Painted Lady Inn Mysteries) by MK Scott is a charming sleuth mystery novel. It has delightful characters who are quirky, endearing and engaging. The plot has just enough mystery and crisis to captivate the reader and hold their interest until the smashing finale. The reader is kept guessing all the way to the unmasking of the culprit. Everyone who loves a cozy mystery with a determined and stubborn female amateur sleuth will adore this delightful book and series. This is the seventh novel in the series, and it does all right as a standalone, but it makes the story more entertaining and fun if you have read all of Donna's adventures. That way you know and understand the dynamics between her and her friends and family.
Mark and Donna arrive back at the Painted Lady Inn from their cruise to find a group of wedding planners who can't seem to agree on anything. One of the planners, Charmaine Sanders, suggests that Donna change the wall paper in the inn for the wedding. Grace Cummings seems to be the nicest of the group. Keith, who is a new to the area, dresses all in black and is opposed to the idea of outdoor weddings. Evelynn, who considers herself to be the best planner, seems to be in constant competition with Grace and Charmaine. In addition to having to deal with disagreeable wedding planners, Donna has to put up with help from her mother and sister-in-law, Maria. Donna is inclined to try working with Grace, until her mother calls her to tell her that Charmaine is dead and sends her a picture of the wedding planner sticking out of the side of the wedding cake. Her mother feels it is murder and Donna agrees. How will Donna and Mark manage to investigate Charmaine's death and plan for their wedding at the same time? Who killed Charmaine? Why was she killed? Can Mark and Donna solve the mystery in time for their own wedding? Another great story from Morgan Scott with realistic character and situations. There is also plenty of humor throughout to keep you thoroughly entertained.
“There has to be a better way of dealing with the completion than killing them off.” Donna Tollhouse and Detective Mark Taber, recently engaged, return to Legacy where Donna runs The Painted Lady Inn and Mark is on the police force. As an older couple, their wedding plans are for simple and quiet. Who needs all the grief of contemporary weddings? But there are many within their circles who think they just have to go the wedding planner route. Having just been on a cruise wedding where the planner “died by cake”, Donna and Mark think getting to know the other planners might give them clues as to the dead planner’s killer. In the meantime life goes on at The Painted Lady as Civil War reenactors overun the place, giving the staff grief trying to cater to their needs. Donna’s former neighbor who’s coming to officiate the wedding shows up with his cronies(and a stowaway), and strange things are happening to the other wedding planners in town. And, who put the hole in the Painted Lady’s parlor? Having read other M. K. Scott books, I settled in for a laugh or two. It took me a while to find the author’s point, but when I got ther, the book lived up to it’s pontential and I enjoyed it a lot. 4/4
I am enjoying each story in this series. Mark and Donna are fun characters. The supporting cast is hilarious. Another twisty plot by M K Scott. Wedding planners are being targeted by the killer just as Mark and Donna are trying to plan their wedding. Very entertaining.
