Outcast Station, the pejorative term for Paradise Station, is the last stop at the end of the universe. Beings from all over end up either in its backwater planet or accompanying space station. And with a meld of diverse creatures and products comes the opportunity for crime and other disasters. The two novellas included are reminiscent, in turn, of The Andromeda Strain and the best of police procedurals. Drawing on the many species and botanicals of this far-flung environment, both novellas weave convincing plots with thoutful character development. Aside from a slow start of the first novella and a few anachronisms in the second, both grabbed my attention and kept it while the companion tales spun to satisfying resolutions. I will definitely read the next installment in this series!
