As a fan, I think I might be slightly biased because I love Gabrielle Union. I bought it thinking it was going to be another run of the mill memoir. That I was going to hear about her childhood. Instead, what I was treated to felt like I was sitting down to have a conversation about everything from race, gender, feeling inadequate, hair, colorism, homophobia, Hollywood, sexuality, school, college, step-parenting, marriage, divorce to even rape, making this book even more topical. I love Union because she is smart and funny throughout the book and when it comes to some topics, she is brave. It is clear that there is nothing that she cannot do, making this book a must read. If she could do anything for me, she could star in a movie version of one of my favorite books called "Stories I Wouldn't Tell Nobody But God," I would be happy. While she could play Nikki, I'd like to see what she could do with the character of Loretta. Back to this book, my favorite chapter is Mittens. You will know why when you read the book.

Gabrielle's book speaks the truth. Her vivid stories focus on her childhood through present. Her experiences, deep knowledge and understanding of the entertainment world is revealed openly through a recount of her personal life.
Her book is well-referenced which makes it an easy read. Gabriel shares the gift of courage, retelling her past experience of being raped. She poignantly writes about being black in America. Chapter by chapter, the stories will rivet you, leaving you wanting more.
Highly recommended!

Beautifully written book. It reads like brunch with friends. Thank you, Gabrielle. May you always be an advocate for women's reproductive issues, and a much needed voice on issues affecting women of color.

Gabrielle’s book is dynamic, brave, and satiating as she shares some of the most important stories of her existence as a black woman, dedicated wife, and a friend. Everyone young woman could gain insight on life, what is truly important and the importance of self-introspection. Others can simply enjoy and reflect! I didn’t want to put this book down.

Reading this book was as close as I’m likely to come to sitting with Gabrielle Union and sharing stories face-to-face. Her openness and honesty were refreshing, liberating and empowering. More than once I found myself admiring her vulnerability and sincere unadulterated self assessment.
I purchased this for one of my sisters when I got my copy. I will now order a copy for one of my nieces. She can experience how being a grown women can be messy without staying in a straight of messed up!

I enjoyed reading this book. It made me laugh really hard, cry at moments and opened up my understanding to know Gabrielle Union more as a regular person than just a celebrity.

Gabrielle's story helps you learn to forgive yourself and to strive for what makes you happy. I hate to say I didn't expect that, but I didn't know what to expect either. I am glad I read her book... it's sort of a collection of stories from her life with an underlying theme of growth and understanding. Some stories she delves deeper into and some she sort of surfaces, but she brings out the point and truth of the story always. Great read.
