Overview

Is teamwork impossible for these brothers and sisters?

Badger brothers Grub and Bristle want to build a boat with their friends, but their new fox sister Ginger always tries to take charge. Everyone has a different idea about what to do.  Bristle wants to build a kayak. Ginger wants a sailboat. And baby sister Berry wants to help, but she can't even swim.

Soon all they've built is a big argument. The only way to decide whose idea is best is to have a race down the river!

Will the race prove one of them right, or will teamwork win the day?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Michael Jung PhD.
When Mr. Badger and Mrs. Fox got married, they also got Badger's two sons Grub and Bristle and Fox's spitfire daughter Ginger. Now these "almost brothers" and "almost sister" must try to get along with each other—which becomes a challenge when Ginger begins building a boat and Bristle tries to take over the project. Soon, all three squabbling siblings decide to build separate boats and hold a boat race to see which one of their ideas is the best. As expected, this leads to numerous disasters, causing these step brothers and sisters to learn that sometimes it takes real teamwork to get a job done right. Originally published in French, this English translation of What a Team! has great charm, thanks mostly to Tharlet's cute animal pictures. Parents will be able to relate to the sibling rivalry showcased in the book, although the story's precious tone may not appeal to some older readers. A great find for younger kids and fans of cute animal picture books. Reviewer: Michael Jung, PhD
