I have to admit, I had rather low expectations for this book. “What Are You Willing to Give up for Happiness?” was recommended by a colleague. When I started it I was expecting a self-serving work fraught with stories that begin with “I” . . . I did this and I did that, etc. I am pleased to say that I couldn’t have been more wrong. While Dr. Aftahi’s book is about her life journey, she was able to essentially remove herself from the tale and cause me, the reader, to reflect on my own journey. The book is both deep and yet easy to read. My favorite sentence is, “. . . we are not humans having a spiritual experience – we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” This book is both brilliant and insightful. Read it. You won’t be disappointed.
