This book is inspiring. It is hard to imagine how this family with two blind parents functioned so well. I recommend it!

My book group picked this novel after reading "Clara & Mr. Tiffany". This is a very different book, with a very different voice. Keep in mind that this was Vreeland's first book, published in 1988. With that said, this was easily the most inspirational book I have ever read. Whatever your disability, even if you don't technically have a disability, but have faced adversity in your life, you will identify with the main character. This is a beautifully poetic book that speaks directly to your heart, challenging you to take on whatever is hidering you and reach for your goals. Read it!

I grew up in Ramona where the book takes place. This family moved before I arrived, but I went to school with niece, nephews and friends of the family. Brought back many happy memories of growing up in a small town.
